Happy December!
This month started off with a fizzle today. Woke up with a back problem that started yesterday. Feel like I take two steps forward one back. I did manage to hunt down the Christmas decor and ornaments. Some things put out but no decorating now. I'm taking it easy to give my back a chance to rest.
We are celebrating the two older grandgirl's birthdays on Saturday at the bowling alley. Won't be bowling just there to help.
I've been watching Christmas movies and enjoying hot tea this afternoon.
Hope everyone has a happy, healthy, cozy month!

That sounds like a perfect way to spend a cozy afternoon, back pain or not! I'm glad that you're resting it and it will feel better soon.

Oh Denise! i am so sorry to hear about your back! How is it feeling today?

I have been doing some crafting here recently (yay!0 and laying out the patterns for our annual Christmas Eve pajamas! I have almost three out of ten cut out. The girls are wanting nightgowns this year rather than pajama pants, so it is taking a bit more time! It will be so worth it though <3

Well, December zoomed right in and caught me in a frenzy to catch up on some chores and get the fall decorations put away. I finished most of that task today except for our back porch area. I think I am going to get more organized before I get all the Christmas stuff put up. I am trying to keep it very simple this year as I have noticed that pulling stuff out, putting it up, taking it down to put something else up is making me worn out!

Denise, I hope your back is staying good and you are feeling better! Shannon, your annual family PJ project sounds like so much fun. It is a really nice tradition and I know the children love it as well. Happy sewing!

Our weather this week is headed up to 80 for a day or so which seems weird. We had a very nice and cool November and I am having a hard time thinking of hot again...and more humid!

As I have gotten older, I have been asking myself every Christmas...do I really want to put all of this stuff out? The more I put out, the more I have to put away! Every year I put out less. I'm enjoying just having a few decorations out besides the tree. Simple and cozy.

I only ended up putting out one tree in my living room. Was going to do another in the library but changed my mind. Just put my lighted ceramic tree in there. It's just too much work to do it all. I have my nativities out and that's all.

I don't decorate for Christmas anymore. I had to do it all, putting it up and taking it down and I just got too tired to do it all with no help. Since the family has spread all over the country we don't get together anymore and the kids and grandkids are grown and would rather have $$ than presents. So no decorating or shopping. My Decembers are much more relaxing than they used to be. I do miss the excitement of having kids around the holidays but that phase of my life is over unless my grandkids decide to give me great grandchildren, which isn't very likely.

I'm still in the throes of raising children, so decorations for us is still loads of fun! We are even going a step further and decorating the main bathroom that everyone uses, this year. It is Grinch themed. I have been crafting specifically for it <3

I am having the same feelings as many of you about hauling out the Christmas decorations. I has become such a chore to do and that takes out all the pleasure. MY girls are grown and this year we all decided not to give gifts to each other. Hubby and I will give the girls each some money but we aren't going to have the big present openings anymore. it is time to do that and with no grandchildren, it just makes sense to stop making so much work for myself decorating. Hubby and I love the tree so we will get a small one for the TV room to enjoy. Judith, you said it so well. It is just too tiring to do the decorating all by ourselves anymore!!

Shannon, enjoy all these years of youngness at home because one day you will find that they all grew up and made their own homes! I came from a big family and when that happened, Mom and Dad just traveled to each kids house in a rotating way so that you go them for either Thanksgiving or Christmas most years. They loved it and it made such good sense to do it that way too,

Finally decorated the tree. I put about half our decorations on because this tree isn't as big as last year's tree. It is very simple and I put many the grandchildren and kids gave us and some made and given to us by family and friends. Our lighted star is too heavy so I will find something else.

Well my husband finally found his tree. It is in water, by the front porch...so I must mop the tile floor where it will sit. My problem is my back...sweeping and mopping just do me in. But after resting for a while...I think it is time.
Our grand kids are enjoying buying and wrapping their angel tree gifts.
This tells me that they learned and remembered from when they were little. I would select some names from the tree at church. They were my little helpers. Then we began to fill shoe boxes. When they were only 2 and 5 I bought baby dolls. We wrapped them, got each little girl dressed in her red Christmas dress, little white jacket(granny made) along with their white tights and sparkly red shoes, and off we went to our local Foster's Home for Children, where the girls each gave their gifts.
Of course we had talked about it before and after. Recently Had said it is awesome to be able to help in this way. And her personal list is much shorter this year!

Marilyn, I hope your back is feeling better again. A painful back can really limit your ability to do much of anything except rest.

I too remember when my children were young participating in gifts from the Angel tree at Church. Planning and gathering the gifts is a great way to help children participate in those less fortunate. I still do it on my own and now our local grocery store has a tree with people of all ages who need help. My favorite thing to do is to reach out to an older adult because they are often over looked for the children.

Our Christmas celebration will be spread over the weekend before and Christmas weekend this year due to some having work commitments 12/24 and 12/26. We are keeping things much simpler and that feels good for everyone. It is most important to just be together . With children that are not grown and working adults, the way we used to do Christmas is past. I remember my parents talking about that as well and wondering what that kind of change would feel like. It is all good!!

Warren and I still love a live tree so we plan to go get one tomorrow and put it up. Looking forward to that because it is always special to have one to enjoy during the season.

3 years ago Ed and I took my then 12 YO grandsons to help at Toys for Tots. We all helped sort toys by boy/girl and ages for about 4 hours. The boys did a super job. I was a little surprised that they didn't stop to look at toys they liked. They hustled from the donation bins that came in to the tables that were by B/G and ages. LOL! I think it was a great experience. I'd like to take them to a soup kitchen sometime to do the same thing. They are 15 yo now.

Absolutely!! I was stunned at the horrible news of the tornadoes that ripped through those states last night. How frightening it all must have been and I hope they can continue to find people and get them the medical help they need. Sending lots of prayers to our Connie and all the many affected families. What an awful and devastating storm!
