Tomorrow is National Quilting Day!!! Is anyone going to celebrate??? I am working on the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt. I think they might be called that because it's a mystery when they will be finished!!! |

We will be traveling so I guess I will celebrate by looking through patterns! |

I have only made a few very simple quilts in my day but I love the patterns and the story about how they were crafted. Today i want to thank all of you who are serious quilters and continuing the tradition of beautiful and useful quilts!! |

I sewed yesterday and today, and I even quilted something - in a way. I channel quilted something I made for a swap. Does that count? LOL! Most of my sewing was not quilted, per se.

Linda -- we must be sewing twins -- I also channel quilted something for a swap. It's the first thing I have quilted in two months and I didn't even know it was national quilting day. Doing the binding today. |

I think any part of quilting qualifies...cutting, piecing, trimming, quilting, looking through books and planning and dreaming about the next project! |

I think I must be backwards because this is the time of year that I like to start making quilts. Most people seem to like fall or winter. But I love the motivation of more sun and color. |

Piecing I can happily do anytime. It's the quilting part that I need motivation to do. After quilting over 100 quilts big and little I am now considering quilting by checkbook. |

I would love to find someone who would do the quilting. I do it by hand. Maybe after we move I can see if there is anyone. It is a little more populated there. There are a couple Mennonite ladies here but they get a lot of quilting work so can't always commit to it. |

I send mine to one of several long arm quilters in my quilt guild. I think a hand quilter would charge a lot more. |

I recall my Grandmother said her church ladies group used to charge $5.00 to quilt a quilt. This was about 1955. Times have changed. |

My last tops that I had quilted by a group of sweet older ladies at a small town Methodist church, 40 miles from me, charged me $200 per quilt. That was when the girls were bitty...so 16-17 years ago. Over a period of five years they quilted several for me. I was offered the binding of the quilt each time and that cost extra but when rounded off it came to $200. They used the quilting as a fundraiser for something. Although I can't recall what. They had a long waiting list, but once I got on their list, either they had less requests or??? Because in the beginning it took over a year for my name to come up. As I began to run low on tops, they were calling me every three months. So make some phone calls and ask if they have a group of quilters. Bobbie was my friends mom, and one of the quilters. She passed.away about a month ago...age 93. |

I think the last I had talked to the Mennonite lady, about 14 or so years, she was charging around $200. But I know there are lots of Amish around here in Ohio so I am sure I can find someone to do it. |

Long-arm quilters here charge around $.015 per square inch. So for a king-size quilt, approximately 110" x 110" would be around $175.00. I've paid between $50 and $150 for quilts to be quilted, and then I put the binding on myself. They charge extra for the thread and batting. I gave a roll of batting to the main quilter I use, so it is there when I give her quilts. I'm getting ready to take her 4 quilts to quilt - mostly a large lap quilt size. I bought 108" backing fabrics yesterday for 2 of them. |
