Good March 1st to you all farmgirls!

March brings breezes loud and shrill,
To stir the dancing daffodil.

Does anyone have special plans for March?
Right now I am visiting my little chick's and boy in Ohio. Loving every minute and a great way to start the month.
My little Violet is not a shy one and talking up a storm now.

We had snow start right after arriving and everything is covered pretty but the roads are nice and clear.

We will be celebrating our Irish heritage this month, both my husband and I love to delve into that part of our family background. We celebrate with a special meal that day. And since we are of the Protestant we wear our orange. I also enjoy decorating with things of green. I have a book I read every year about the real story of St.Patrick.

How do you make March special?

Denise~~

Denise I did the best I could do by turning 77.

My plans for March are to write and work with wool. Mid March my live plants and rose bush are due so I will be busy in the garden. Warmer weather means I can resume canning in my Yellow Rose Cottage.

Old Winter isn't through with us yet - low for Sun is 16.

Happiest birthday Sara <3

March is a month of preparation for me... figuring out the exact garden planting plans, the plans with animals, and other homesteading plans.

Denise - what do you guys have for your Irish dinner? I have an appetizer of crostini with bacon and goat cheese, Irish stew, an Irish pub salad and soda bread on the menu right now for dinner. Dessert will be a creme de menthe pie and breakfast a spinach quiche with rainbow fruit salad. A combination of green and leprechaun lore mixed in with Irish fare :)

Shannon,
Last year's we had bangers and mash which is sausages and potatoes. I haven't decided on our menu for this year.
JT's mom will be with us so hoping she will share some of her recipes with me. She is the Irish side in his family.

Thanks Darlene.

I'm thinking about making a cottage pie. According to my Irish cookbook cottage pie is made with ground beef and Shepard's pie is made with lamb. The recipe in the cookbook is made with champ topping which is mashed potatoes with chopped scallions. I will use green onions and green tops of garlic.

A bottle of room temperature Kellerman's Red Irish beer will go nicely with the cottage pie.

Sounds like you have great birthday plans, Sara. Cottage pie sounds interesting. I always thought shepherd's pie was made with beef - I've had it from several restaurants that was made with hamburger.

I think here in the states it is made with ground beef but the Shepard's pie of Irish fame was made by shepherds as they tended their flocks. I've made Irish stew with lamb but never shepherd's pie. Lamb is hard to come by in Paris. I had to special order it.

Back from another estate sale. Not as good as the others but I did find a throw pillow for a wool project. Had a tasty lunch - soup & sandwich - at Paris Coffee Shop. A friendly place where customers speak to each other.

Now it's nap time.

That sounds like fun, I like Estate sales you never know what you will find nor if they will be reasonably priced.
I am glad you had a good day.

Thanks Darlene. It was a good sale for those looking for new household items and it was reasonably priced. I primarily look for vintage; unusual items; and lately 100% wool.

March 1st is cold here!!! My Bradford Pear trees are in full bloom! All the daffodils and Forsythia bushes are blooming and the Tulip trees! The peach trees are blooming in the orchard down the road from me!! Its going down to 18 degrees here Saturday and Sunday night! I hope the freeze don't harm the fruit trees!!

March always makes me think of Ireland!
Denise, I love that your celebrate your Irish Heritage! I went to Ireland in March 2011. The Porridge was served with fresh butter and Cream. I could have eaten it 3 times a day! I didn't like the Blood Pudding! I would not eat lamb! All I saw was sheep grazing everywhere and I just could not eat it! I liked the Irish stew! The vegetables were all very good! The most wonderful Teas! They do coffee for the Americans at all the hotels. It was the chance of a lifetime for me to go. I will always treasure the memories! The first picture is a castle in Dublin, the 2nd is a church in Killarney. The 3rd is Killarney Park, where the film Far and Away was filmed and many others! I love the country side of Killarney the best. Dublin is, to me ,like a small New York City!

Those of us who went long to go back someday!

Connie

One day I will visit Ireland!

Sara - my kids love to tell people that true Shepherds Pie is lamb, Cottage Pie is beef, and Hunters Pie is venison. I think really the only other difference between them other than the meat, is which herbs you use. Golly I think I'm going to have to make some of that soon :)
