Sara, It's my piddle day today! I had Lily june from Thursday evening until 6 last night. Ganny is pooped! I read a little, I'm excited about your stories! I am trying to get things together to make Lily June some skirts. She wants a Barbie One, so I found some Barbie fabric cheap on ebay. Maybe by the time it gets here I can be more organized, Not! LOL!!

Connie happy to put you on my list.

I know what you mean about being pooped. It's hard for me to have busy days in a row. I need my quiet time.

Connie - I will look through my fabric. I am sure I have something you can use for skirts, sundresses, etc., for Lily June. Since I have no girl grandchildren, except for one who is 17, I don't need all the pink girlie stuff. LOL!

Aww Thanks Linda!! Her favorite skirt last summer was that pink seersucker with the cats that you gave us. I made 3 skirts out of it!

I hope all ELVIS fans watch tonight's special on NBC - it's a Tribute Special to ELVIS' 1968 Comeback Special. I can't wait. They've been tlaking about it for Days on the SIRIUS radio ELVIS channel. Check your area's TV listings for time

The weather was kind of decent at times today. We dried out a little more.
I spent most of the day reorganizing and getting rid of clutter in my pantry and kitchen. So far I have taken 6 medium size boxes to donation. Hoping to clear out some more things. So many doubles and triples of things. With just the two of us I don't see the point in keeping it all. Funny how even though I get rid of a lot I still seem to have more to go through. Feels good to see some emptier spaces.

Me, too, Marilyn. I really need to sort, weed out, sell, and give away a lot of things.

Good news: My colonoscopy went very well. The doctor said everything was fine; in fact, he said I was the best case he'd had all day! No polyps at all!

Betty and I went to an estate sale today. It started on Thurs but with the bad weather we waited to go until today. It was a big house and so much stuff was still left. They marked most things down to half price except for furniture. Clothes and purses were marked down to $1. I bought 3 100% wool women's jackets for wool applique. Wool for my projects is expensive so $3 for all that wool was a great deal for me. It'll take a little work to tear them apart; soak in hot water & dry to make into felted wool. The colors are red; hunter green; and a pretty brown. Not all browns are pretty.

Also bought 4 aprons and 2 kitchen towels to hang on cabinet doors.

All in all I spent $8.

I've been looking for 100% wool garments or blankets but 100% wool anything is hard to find in Texas.

It bothers me a little bit to tear apart well made quality clothes but then I decided whether I wore the jackets or used them for wool applique no other woman would get the use of them. Now I will have more wool to create with and my budget doesn't suffer.

Great find, Sara. I always look at Goodwill stores and thrift stores for 100% wool or angora sweaters to felt for sewing projects. I hadn't thought of felting wool jackets. Great idea.

What is the process to make felted wool?

Wool felting info from Wool Applique folk art by Rebekah L. Smith. I bought this book when Carole got me interested in wool applique after she posted pictures of her work.

Bring water to a boil in large pot - add wool - and simmer for about 20 minutes. Use a pot that you will not need for cooking because after felting it cannot be used for cooking again. Reason is many of the dyes used in dying wool are acid based.

Let the water cool before removing the wool.

Let the wool drip dry by either draping over clothesline or hang over a sink inside.

Or: use washer & dryer. Both the agitation and heat will felt wool.

Guess which method I will be using. You're be right. Washer & Dryer.

I may use the pot method for small pieces of wool I find. Will have to be on the look out for a large enamel pot.

Linda I look for wool skirts too because they have a lot of material and easier to rip apart than jackets. When I was in the Red Hat Society I made a birthday pill box hat by using a purple wool skirt. I think I did a rather nice job on it.

Thanks Sara. So it is also to shrink the wool in the process?

Nice to know clothing works, too. I will have to try that. I've made a few purses from felted wool.
