Marilyn I talk to strangers through the storm door with big bad Annie at my side. When I work in the front or side yards I put her on a long chain. I'm really not afraid to be outside alone I'm just cautious from years of living alone.

I have never had fear of strangers here at this p!ace. My friend recently told me I should lock my doors during the day time. So one day I did and my husband came home mid day, was locked out and not happy. When I'm sewing , at the table, I do sometimes lock the door to the utility room. Since our lane has no outlet, and two big gates I think folks who drive up in here once, get the idea...It is a trap!

Did your grandmother have balls of string, saved from her chicken feed, flour, etc. Like my grandma did?
This is from some alfalfa bags.
How many of you went with your mom or grandmother to a Sarah Coventry party when you were a kid.

Sweet Memories!!!

Thanks Sara!
Marilyn, my dining room faced the road too. My street is a dead end, so not much traffic. So you notice strange cars. Just 4 houses on this road.

My mother used to collect string - I have 2 of the old string holders that hang on the wal, with the scissors.

That's a cute dollhouse, Connie. You can do it. After seeing that, I may have another surprise for you. LOL!

I also sew on my dining room table. I really need to organize my craft/sewing house. I have tables there where I COULD sew. And Ed just put on a screen door so I can get a breeze through when I'm there, without letting the neighbor cats, dogs, and bugs in. LOL!

The second photo is of several Sarah Coventry necklaces my mother purchased. I do enjoy wearing them from time to time. I guess I could call them vintage...they are 65 years young.

Marilyn I remember going to Sarah Coventry parties and ordering from girls at work (TI in Richardson - early 1960s)who were having parties. Loved their pins with matching earrings. Should have hung on to them even if they were clip-ons - before I had my ears pierced.

Sara, these necklaces are the only thing I found in mother's stuff. I love that they almost sparkle. I don't know what they are made of, but I wear them because they don't make my neck itch like modern chains do.
I have actually cut the clips off of some old earrings and glued on posts, so I could continue to enjoy them.

Marilyn I can relate to itchy necks that's why I cut labels out of my clothes.

I put it in my day-planner so it'll get done (maybe) to work on my story and wooly sheep. My story is way over due - hope to finish it by first of next week. Seems like the wooly sheep is an on going project for the near future.

I posted two photos of the quilt I rehabed last weekend. The close up photo shows the stains, but they really don't stand out except when you look closely. They are also close to the edge and are easily covered up with other items. When I first started, the stains were dark brown/red so I am happy that they turned out as light as they did.

Winnie that is lovely. Those colors look a lot like a wedding ring quilt my daughter made. I happen to be using hers at the moment. You got a great find even with the stains and I'm sure there is way to cover them and they are just as pretty. Have you tried the Tide pen?

That is a nice quilt, Winnie. I will work some more on my quilt to see if I can get the stains out. I may photo and show you what they look like now.

That is a pretty quilt, Winnie. Have you tried putting lemon juice on the darkest part of the stain and letting Mr. Sun work his magic? I used to comb lemon juice through my brown hair (my mother called it dish water blonde hair) before working outside in the June sun. It always worked and I had natural highlights.

My afternoon project on this cold drippy day was feed bags. My son buys his alfalfa cubes in woven plastic bags. They are from Idaho, near Yellowstone. Anyway, when he first switched from hay to the cubes he showed me the bags and said I should try to make something with them. So I made him a bag with pockets, which he was excited about, because he could keep some of his horse brushes, etc in the pockets. Then for Christmas I gave Julie and Bay each several tote bags made from the hay bags. So this afternoon I started again.

I love your feed bags, Marilyn. I have one from several years ago. I have a bird seed bag I may use to make one. I made my DIL a bag from a horse feed bag. It's a great recycle project.

Linda, I did not try a Tide pen, but did use Shout it Out and brush on the very first go around before the Biz paste.

I also did not try hydrogen peroxide or lemon juice . After all the washings with BIZ, I decided that I would stop because the stains were much improved and I worried about breaking down the thin old fabric integrity and causing more tears. I might try all of these recent suggestions another time just to see what happens. Have you ever been more worried about going too far and causing new problems rather than stop at the success you made? This is sort of how my thinking is at the moment. 99% of the quilt is perfectly intact and all of the old age yellowing stains are gone and most of the original big ones. Maybe it is a matter of "leave well enough alone"? LOL!! But thank-you all for your ideas because they might help me in a future endeavor!

Ok Linda, this is what I'm making.
I start with the 50# empty bag, and cut it into three pieces. Then I hem the top of each cut piece because it I don't they fray a lot. Then I attach each piece to a bag, add some fabric strips and divide the pockets down the middle. I add loops to the top so it can be hung up. The one I put at the barn is on the out side of the heavy wooden door leading into the tac room. He has so much stuff there was not a space for it inside. But it holds brushes, combs, rags, betadine, etc for the horses.

Marilyn, you are so talented with using those to make new different bags. I still have my tote you made from the chicken feed bag. I use it for groceries. It is great for anything that may be wet or cold as I can wipe it right out when I get home.

Today I made 2 Table runners - Valentines on one side and Spring flowers on the other. I know - a little late for Valentines, but I knew if I didn't finish them today, when the pieces parts were out, I probably never would - they'd be another UFO. LOL!

It's nice to have them reversible Linda. The things Marilyn made for me are reversible and I love them. One side is birthday and the other Valentine.
