I finished the tee shirt quilt. It is in a box, because she was coming to visit! Maybe I can remember to photograph it tomorrow.

Linda, the quilts turned out great!
Marilyn, yes, we have a set of 3 forks on the front of a tractor and also a backhoe. They both have a backboard of sorts so that up to 3 bales and can lifted, moved and/or stacked at once.

These are some photos of the tee shirt quilt! I love that fleece I found at walmart. It was fluffy, the perfect color and easy to work with. I just hope she likes it!
I used two yards of a feathers print on a blue background to sash the "quilt", because the HS team was called the Indians.Besides she and her sister have always been interested in Indians.
Her shirts include high school cheer, her friends volleyball team from a neighboring school, youth at church and her shirts from Beauty school.

Thanks Denise and Sara. I discovered that my arthritic fingers have more trouble tying the embroidery thread now than they did five years ago.

She will love that, Marilyn. Very nice and comfy looking.
I have some of Ed's t-shirts and mine from an organization I was a member of, and want to do t-shirt quilts, but a little leery of starting one. Did you stabilize the t-shirts on a thin iron-on interfacing? Did you use any batting or just the fleece on the back?

Connie, about 15 years ago I got a phone call from some woman in Fort Worth who needed some tee shirt quilts made. She had seen the one I made for our former city manager. ( I taught with and commuted with his wife). They hung his as a curtain over the patio doors in their den.
But when I met the woman to get the tee shirts...I was shocked! She had tubs full. Notice I said tub with an s! They had two of every rock and country concert they had ever been to. Then they had his memories from HS and college, then they had their vacation shirts, then they had his marathon shirts. I was working long long daycare days, and it took me a while. Finally I called her and she came to get them. She was happy about her memory quilts but not too happy about the price. They are a lot of work, which people don't understand!

Linda, yes I ironed pellon fusible featherweight (#911FF) on the back side of each shirt design, after turning each shirt wrong side out. Then they cooled, I went to bed. The next day, I began to do the cutting.
First you need to lay your shirts on the bed to see how large the designs are. Don't cut! Just look. Then measure to see how big your blocks will be.
This is my opinion: it is better to waste a bit of pellon than have a big stretchy mess.
Turn all of the shirts wrong side out. Check to see if some may have a design on both front and back. Then iron the pellon on.
Let it cool. Then I use my scissors to cut around the pellon ...later, after I have chopped them out. ..I rotary cut so my blocks are nice and straight. Remember to leave room for seams, so you don't lose part of your design.
If there is a small design on one side, prepare it...you may need it or I have made pillows from a set of small designs.
Every one I have made, I used sashing strips. Many people just sew the blocks together.
I have always used batting and backing, until this one. I knew that my Hadlee loves fleece and this fleece will remind her of her North Face jackets. I think it was just less than $6 per yard. I used two yards.
Hey that was cheaper than buying batting and fabric to back it. It was also easier.
I hope you will try to make yours. They are not that hard after you do the prep work.
And yes you must use your math skills!
I use six strand embroidery thread to tie mine.

On yes you will get lots of rags. I even cut some into 1" strips and rolled them into balls to make a small rug this winter. I also took a tall coffee can full to the tacroom at the barn. Wade often has need for a rag.

I have some of the lightweight Pellon - just need to get busy and iron the shirts and the pellon on them. A lot of Ed's are from his volunteering at the medical center in Honduras, and are all the same fronts. The back is the sponsors names. I won't use ALL the backs, because they are all the same, but will use duplicates on the fronts.

Yes, they are a lot of work. There is one place though, https://www.projectrepat.com/ , that does t-shirt quilts very reasonably, and I'm told they are very well done. I've thought about sending them there, but will make at least one. LOL!

Taking a break from working on wool applique projects. I want to make fabric pumpkins in different fabrics and sizes. Been saving pumpkin, gourd, and bell pepper stems to put on the pumpkins. Bell pepper stems are perfect for mini-pumpkins.

I moved a wrought iron planter with 3 baskets from the sideyard to the frontporch this morning. I didn't get around to planting anything in the baskets this year so they are ready for the fabric pumpkins. May buy some Indian corn to go with the fabric pumpkins - then I may not - depends on how the pumpkins look by their selves.
