Ended up having Jenni on the 16th, as my waters broke. It was pretty traumatic, as my spinal didnt work right and i felt much of it! They said it was "patchy" as it only numbed deep and subcutaneous, but nothing in the middle, it was primarily on the left, and it wore off all at once really quickly. A couple hours later, they finally gave me a block, as all I could do was cry and my blood pressure was at stroke level. But oh the joy of having our Jenni! She was 8 lb 4.5 oz and 20 inches long. She is just perfect! <3 The kids are over the moon excited and we are all in love!

For you who are reading my story Widows' Pew and may have wondered why one of the characters takes pride in having Goodnight as her last name. Got to admit Edna Earl does go abroad with it. Here's a little bit of Texas history.

Charles Goodnight 1836-1929 was one of the best known ranchers in Texas and was called the Father of the Texas Panhandle. He was a Texas Ranger who led the raid that rescued Cynthia Parker from the Comanche. He helped with the treaty with her son Quanah Parker.

During the Civil War he fought on the side of the Confederacy mostly in the frontier against Indians. After the war he led the effort to round up all the feral longhorn cattle across Texas. He along with Love and Chisolm open up the cattle trails throughout Texas, Colorado, and other western states.

A little bit of my personal history. From age one to ten I lived on California Crossing Road that crossed Goodnight Lane before you reached the Trinity River. California Crossing Road got it's name because that's where people going west to California crossed the Trinity River.

Goodnight Lane was part of Charles Goodnight's old cattle trail. Between 10 and 14 I lived in a little town about 20 miles from California Crossing Road and Goodnight Lane ran through it.

Here's a little more just for you Linda. How I came about the name Edna Earl. By the way I am a collector of names. When I lived in Howe before moving to Paris a neighbor two doors up was named Edna and she told me her middle name was Earl. Her father had read St Elmo's Fire and named her after one of the characters.

At the same name Edna told me her story I was reading the obits in the Sherman paper to use unusual names in short stories. Within a year's time three women about Edna's age died and their names were Edna Earl.

One of the names in the obits of a woman in her 90s was Washie Nell. Still trying to work that name into one of my stories.

Hi everyone. Since my tablets aren't sending me notices, and I forget to come over here after deleting about a zillion emails every day...I am so behind on hen house news.
Shannon, congratulations on your new baby girl. She sounds sweet and healthy!
Sara, I believe Charlie may be like my son. Wade builds a house for a family, and next thing we know, they are going out to dinner, visiting, roping together, etc. He has accumulated lots of friends. Charlie and his family sound like good people. I'm enjoying your stories too.
Linda, I sure hope you begin feeling a lot better soon.
I have been dismissed by my orthopaedic doctor, and finished my sixth pool therapy today. I will pay $40 on December first, so I can go in and do those same exercises, on my own, several times each week. Hopefully I can strengthen the quad muscle a lot more.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
In the card swap, Nora sent us a recipe for pumpkin fluff. I made it Sunday and it was so easy and so yum! One can of pumpkin,
One small vanilla instant pudding mix
One tub of Cool Whip 8 or 12oz.
Some pumpkin pie spice (I used a teaspoon, after I found a recipe and made some.)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Stir it all together, it is so light and fluffy. It is also rich.
Now...I had some ginger snap cookies that went in the food processor to be ground up. I put a spoon of cookie crumbs, a couple of big spoons of fluff, then I sprinkled more cookie crumbs on top. It was very good. If you are not able to eat cookies, try ground up pecans, or other nuts.

Thank you, Sara. We both have colds, allergies, or something, and are laying low this long weekend to try and get rid of it.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my special farm girl henhouse sisters. I hope you have a great time with family and friends.

This is going to be a long holiday season for me - most of family not around this year. It is hard for me to get in the Christmas mood. I have lots of projects to make and swap cards and tags to make, so hopefully that will keep my mind busy.

Well, laying low didn't happen. We were invited to a friend's house this afternoon - Ed's co-in-laws. We had a great time and lots of good food.

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving.

Talking with my sister, Betty, today she told me a story her husband's 95 year old aunt told her. When Aunt Willie was young all the family were getting together to celebrate her grandfather's 90+ birthday. It was to be potluck on the grounds but they didn't have tables so the men took doors off their hinges and put the doors on saw horses for tables. That's the kind of gathering I would like to be invited too.

Sara, I was reading that and thinking how ingenious they were and resourceful. Sounds like something my mom would suggest. She always came up with a fix for everything. No matter what it was. She amazed me with all her talents and thought processes. I don't think I got those genes. LOL.

I want to apologize to everyone about not keeping up with my gratitude and swaps. If I've missed thanking you, I'm deeply sorry. Without going into too much detail, I have been busy with shows, but I was also in the hospital because I was septic and was working straight through it not paying much attention. I've been confused and my seizures have been rearing their ugly head at every turn. My cards, for the most part, remain unopened. It will be a wonderful gift for an afternoon when I can sit down and enjoy them!

Sherry, I will definitely be on the main forum for swaps to thank you for the wonderful Thanksgiving gift. Everything was so lovely!!

I think I'm up-to-date on my swaps now, and again, if I was late for you, I apologize deeply.

All this and in the middle, my Aunt who was living in a nursing home, the nursing home burned to the ground. She is ok, however, she has lost everything. So, of course, that has been another source of stress. She is re-homed and I'm trying to get some of my art supplies together because she was a former art teacher and that's her solace. We all know how that is.

So, again, I'm sorry. I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving. I will, at this point try and keep up from this point.

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving and long weekend. My grand daughter wanted family pictures. We all dressed in something other than work clothes. But my son decided we should take a walk through the neighbors gate and take photos in the tall grass. Then the wind got up a bit...and the dogs decided to come from behind us because they wanted to be in the pictures too...so we have interesting pictures.
We finally finished the turkey and most of the dressing. The Roosters should enjoy the rest.
Everyone seemed to enjoy something different for Sunday dinner yesterday.
Now we get back to real life. I will go get my friend tomorrow to take her to shop for her husband and then to therapy. She asked me to take her to get his Christmas, because they are always together and she can't buy anything that he does not see. Perhaps I can run a couple of errands while she is at therapy.
I must go and try to take more things to the sewing room so I can return with lights and ornaments for the pretty green tree that is standing in my living room. It is drinking water, so hopefully it will last until Christmas.
