Good morning,

February, a month for celebrating love. Anyone doing something special on February 14?

When Pumpkin was young, elementary school, I would make special treat bags out of valentine theme fabrics for her classmates and fill them with snacks. The kids just loved it. It was a lot of work but oh so rewarding. I miss those days!

Cheers!

Carole - what a sweet idea! What if you picked a classroom at the school and still did that? Or check with the pediatric floor at the hospital and did it there? Or an orphanage? That way you can still have the enjoyment, and bless someone else at the same time.

We are adopting the German culture for the year as part of my merit badge work... Valentines Day is strictly an adult thing there, so I will be making my hubby a gingerbread heart with a German message on it. However, the night before, I think we are going to do a Disney family night - watch Lady and the Tramp and eat Disney recipes from Tony's :)

Shannon, great idea!

Now that Pumpkin is out of elementary school (that just sounds funny now that she's a sophomore in university lol), I've become so disconnected! I was so involved, board member of the local learning center, lots of volunteering, Girl Scout leader, PTA you name it! I imagine most of the teachers from her time have retired.

Last year I did send a box of Valentines Bag treats (30 of them) with a note to distribute to her little classmates! LOL She and her roommates did what they called "reverse Trick of Treat" ... knocked on dorm doors and distributed the bags.

Today, I look at my schedule and say, "goodness girl, slow down!" Amazing how time for one thing that you've let go gets taken up by something else! Something to thing about! It all boils down to priorities!

Cheers!

I believe we are going out this year to celebrate.
We usually try to go when can to get a break from the household and spend the time reconnecting. Seems when there are others around 24/7 time away/alone is a commodity we covet. Hard to be a couple when you live with 4 men. Lol.

Carole, I so can relate! I was one of my Holly's classroom Room Mothers from 1-6 grade! I loved making treats and party favors and decorations and Games!!
I hope I can participate a little bit when my grand daughter, Lily June starts to school as a Granny Room Mother! LOL!

We usually go out to a special place for Dinner, but we always go the night before now that we are older, to avoid the crowds! When I was much younger, I cooked dinner some years for a few family members and that was fun! I decorated and had candles and flowers on the table. It was a fun way to get to see one another!

I was just the opposite, never a room mother for Wade because I was teaching. I did bake and decorate cookies and make surprises though. Then as grand mother, I did a lot of room mothering, baking, making treats and volunteering.

No telling where a smile will come from. The mailman delivered a reminder card from Annie's vet. Address to her in c/o of me. I know it's a ploy to get me to bring her in but the idea of my Annie receiving her own mail did make me smile. And today I needed an unexpected smile.

Sara. I loved that! We buy a lot of our Doggie supplies/treats from Chewy.com. We received the neatest Christmas Card from them, brought a big smile to my face! Just so unexpected!
Valentine's Day was the day Dave and I met, so a very special one for us! We are going to our favorite Farm to Table Restaurant for Dinner. They are only open one night a year - Valentine's! The rest of the time they are only open for breakfast and lunch!

What a neat idea Ruth. When I was in the restaurant business, the special days like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Mother's day were fun...but we knew we had worked hard. My favorites were private Christmas parties. It was like getting ready for and having company. Enjoy your wonderful dinner.

The men's Bible Study at my church makes a semi-formal dinner for the women at my church, I am going to that.
They have dinner and music.
Very nice.

They always have a valentine's day dinner at our church too but since we don't get a lot of time together we decided to go out. Even though there are people out and about it's time socializing with just the two of us.

We have never celebrated Valentine's Day that much now that the girls are grown. We just find each other a special card and enjoy that.

Have any of you ever watched Last Man Standing. My husbsnd loves thst show. He has Mike Baxter's thoughts on Valentine's Day. He gave me flowers already that said Happy February 3rd. Then he cut out a heart out of the Sunday paper that said Happy Valentine's Day and attached it to the note. The flowers are beautiful. He so goofy, but he makes life fun.

Btw, Mike Baxter, played by Tim Allen, tells his wife Happy February 14th. That Valentine's show is hilarious.

Brenda, my husband loves Last Man Standing as well. We have returned to the frozen tundra and at -4 right now I am really wishing I was back in the great state of Texas.we so enjoyed our time there, saw a lot of sights, loved the beach and enjoyed spending time with a farm girl! Sara we ate in Paris going to Longview and on our way home after we left Canton and I thought of you both times and was wishing I had brought your phone number with me. There as so many places we wanted to see but just ran out of time so there is always next year. The grandkids were thrilled to have us back, we would walk on the beach every day and collect sea shells for them and came home with a gallon bag full. The pets were just as lonesome so they have been hot on our heels to make sure we aren't going anywhere. It is true though, cold or not there really is no place like home.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

Julie, it sounds like you had such a great time!
They are calling for snow here again tomorrow night. It was so nice out today, hard to believe it isn't Spring yet.

My husband likes Last Man Standing too. He always has liked Tim Allen.

Good morning,

Denise, great post/photo about quilting! I can so relate! A date with your husband is a good thing! Enjoy your special "social" time.

Darlene, enjoy your special dinner. Will there be any dancing?

Brenda, thank you for sharing your "goofy" story! It put a smile on my face!

Julie, glad you had a wonderful vacation. I enjoyed looking at your pictures on instagram! It's the next best thing to being there!

Not much going on around here. Keeping busy and out of trouble! Always a good thing! Enjoy the day everyone!

I love
Lucy's quotes.
For Valentine's Day this year I am making cards and mug mats. I love to decorate too. I am going to make the Dove chocolate-covered pretzels with an m&m on top.

Well, have to cancel an appointment for today and reschedule. Icy on roads and sidewalks is not good. JT and Jbear are staying in today. Most of the work they do is outdoors and that is not happening today. So I'm going to finish up my knitting project and do some embroidery today, sitting by the fire.

That is smart Denise. Stay inside. When we get icy weather, someone seems to slip and fall. My son has so many four legged critters...It is almost round the clock work to keep ice broken up so they can drink their water. We must water and feed chickens. When the girls were very small, I sent some money with them to buy me a vintage sled when they went to Wisconsin. I wanted it for Christmas decorating. Mostly it became a fun activity for them on "snow" days. Even a dusting and they wanted to be pulled all over the place. Lots of cold winter fun followed by hot chocolate to warm up.

We will have to take care of our animals but the hens are toasty in the coop with their heat lamp and heated waterer. Food is always kept in their bin in case weather prevents us from getting out there. The guys keep the furnace full of wood and will have to restock the woodstove inside today as I put the last of it in this morning. Stays nice and dry in the woodshed and under tarps. Since we are situated where we are we never really know what we will end up getting so we try to stay prepared.
