95 here at the moment. sigh. Every day here is the same lately. Miserable and crazy hot/humid!! Soon........yesterday, I dug out a few pre-Fall items and put up a few new things on my living room hunt board just to dream of things to come!! LOL!!!

Apples and sunflowers seemed like a good combination to an otherwise broiling outdoors. Also, I subscribe to Yankee Magazine and here is a little poem that was posted in their July/August issue that just came.

Things to Come

Some august night,
while we're asleep,

Across our beds,
the cold will creep,

And summer's sudden
change of channel

Will restore our faith
in flannel.

By, D.A.W.

How about that? It gives me great hope!! LOL!! Of course down here, that crisp air change might not happen until December, but hey..... at least it will happen and hopefully sooner!

Winnie, you are a girl after my own heart. Autumn is my favorite season. I usually begin in August, putting out bits like you. Many many years ago, I noticed a change in the wind in early August...a different smell? a different something, that gave me hope of cooler temps and Autumn coming.

Winnie, I love the poem and your decorations. It's supposed to hit 110 here tomorrow. Ugh, I hate humidity. Our winters get cold soon enough. Let's get the hot stuff out of the way. Fall will cool us off. Hooray for air conditioning!

Major spring cleaning is my summer project. I decided to give each room a week to clean, rearrange and reorganize. I know the rest of you are faster than me. My back has been causing problems. It is gradually improving, but a week ago many breaks were required to rest it. Today many less breaks and more work. My kitchen has to be finished tomorrow, and I think the cleaning will be...but I may do the decor on Saturday afternoon. You know how life interrupts us...visiting with Hadlee, crafting with Hadlee, going to lunch with Hadlee... She does get a bit lonely with everyone at work but us. Her mom leaves her a list of chores, then she has to water horses too. So that is why I gave myself a week to each room. Now I do not need to be mad at me because it was not done in a day or two.
Oh yes, my cousin called me today, to tell me that my sweet elderly uncle, who was 103 and two months old passed away. I think he had a stroke. He lived a good life and loved our Lord. When I was going through chemo, his men's prayer group met once a week. They added me to their prayers. He was 96 at the time.

Oh my, that is so hot. I would melt.

We had a 4.6 earthquake today, I was working in a class room when it hit and it was loud and the building moved and not fun, but so far nothing else.
It came from inland a ways, Surprised me where it was. Enough is enough.
:D hugs

Ohh, Darlene, that is scary! I am glad nothing worse came from it. The news has been reporting the sudden unrest along the California fault line recently and I bet is has a lot of people worried.

Connie, Lily June looks like a new generation of Fall lovers! She is getting so big and changing so fast!

All of you in the super heat wave area, I hope this passes soon! I know you are not used to these hot and suffocating temps which just adds to the misery. Down here, it is just par for the course for the entire summer!

Only 80 on the porch this morning, but supposed to hit 100 this afternoon - with a heat index of 106 or more. I don't like this heat at all.
Yardmen are working on stone edging, sidewalks and flagstone this week - the hottest temps so far this year.

Oh no Darlene, that is so frightening. Did you sit down? Does it make you feel dizzy or ? My cousin mentioned earthquakes when we talked yesterday. I wonder if any place is safe anymore. Take care of yourself and be safe.God bless you.

Oh, Darlene - sorry to hear about the earthquake. Hope there was no damages or injuries.

Earthquakes are no fun. Years ago I was on stage during an orchestra rehearsal in San Jose, CA, and we had an earthquake. The whole stage shook. It took us a while to realize, because we had just come to the loud kettle drum passage in the Sorcerer's Apprentice music. Everyone grabbed their instruments and left as soon as we could.

Hello everyone,

Winnie, nice display!
Connie, what a cute picture of Lily June!
Darlene, The earthquake didn't make the news up here. I bet you just never get used to an earthquake.

Well, the 4H judging was hot! It must have been in the 90's in the barn! It was difficult to judge the kid's projects. They were not there to explain anything, so we took the information from the cards they filled out. I certainly enjoyed it and would do it again next year, should they need me.

My little Pumpkin is coming home for the weekend, if you want to call it that. She gets one day off, Saturday, and must be back at work on Sunday by 11 a.m. But she loves it. Next Saturday she is leaving for Nicaragua, to work on the homes of the less fortunate. She has such a huge heart!

Aside from that, not much is happening. Went for my power walk last night and came home wet! Goodness it was hot!

Catch you later! Cheers!

Sherry - Yes, I am used to it, but don't like it this hot for this long. LOL! My first summer in Texas was when there was over 100 days IN A ROW of over 100 degrees - sometime around 1979? It was still 100 at 10 PM many of those days.

Connie - I love the pics of Lily June you post. She is a cutie for sure.

Carole - I think everyone is dripping after a walk in this weather. LOL!

Carole I hope you are having a great day with Pumpkin.
I wouldn't be able to walk in that heat, they would have to pick me up.
The earthquake was a surprise for us all I think and I had to hunt to find any news or alerts about it. Not normal, It was hard and shallow and not very far inland a different place than normal.

Connie Lily June is adorable and I bet she is fun to be around.

I heard that the last thing in Germany was just some guy, copying what the last ISIS shootings were. Sad!

Well everyone have good evening.

hugs

I hope you do not have another surprise, Darlene. About a year and a half ago I was awakened by my bed shaking, probably 30-45 seconds. Later in the morning, on the news it was reported that a small earthquake had occurred in Johnson county. It is about forty miles away. I did not think you could feel a quake that far away...but there was nothing else to blame the shaking on. I remember thinking it would be confusing and perhaps difficult to stand in a big one.

Yeah Marilyn, it depends on the fault and the line it follows.
They had one in 1906 in San Francisco and it was felt and done some damage all the way up to Eureka I think.

If you feel one, just get under a table if you can and hold on until it is over.
