Yea I agree with you on that Denise, being busy makes the time zoom by.

Have a good day Julie, you are so busy and do so many things. I bet your strawberry rhubarb jelly is good. I know when they make that combination into a pie at church, there is never any left over. Yum!
Have a good day!

Yes, but when trying to clean house for BUNCO being busy is distracting. I get quilting stuff ready to put away for a while and start piddling with stuff. LOL!

Oh Linda, I know what you mean. I am easily distracted and it is why I feel like I don't get anything done.
I remember when the kids were still living at home. JT and the three kids went away for a weekend. I was focused and I cleaned house from top to bottom, excluding the kids rooms. They were all older so the rooms were their responsibility. I took every room apart and thought I would never get done in a weekend. I decluttered and cleaned and to this day I do not know what possessed me to ever do it. LOL! My sister would call me at around 9pm and we would talk and I would clean till around 2 in the morning. I'll never forget that and I have never been possessed enough to do it again!!

While spraying for burdock tonight along a pasture fence line, I came across this.

Our hen house flower, The wild prairie rose. They are just starting to bloom and they smell so sweet. I always love bringing a couple in to put in a little vase for my window sill.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

That is beautiful. So does it grow wild where you live? Perhaps you can take some cuttings and start it in your yard.

Nice photo Julie.

Yes Marilyn they do grow wild here. I have tried cuttings before and they just don't work.so I enjoy them in the pastures and along the roadsides. They don't get very big, more of a ground cover. Darlene that is the shading, it is most definitely a beautiful pink.

I have a wild very thorny mass, that was given to me by a co-worker, years ago. It was a wild rose she dug up from the road side somewhere in Arkansas. It has tiny very full blooms, and only blooms once a year. Thankfully when I planted it I put it out away from the house, because it has very long very thorny canes...also out there is a Queen Elizabeth rose that has become a sport. It has the most beautiful open blooms similar to your Prarie Rose, but they are dark red. I love roses.

On the subject of plants, does anyone have experience with Elderberries? I ordered three from Stark Bros. Three years ago, I think I am growing another mass. They are only about five feet tall and blooming. I have more blooms this year, but the insects and birds seem to be attracted to the blooms and any tiny fruit that may appear is soon gone. What am I supposed to do. I want to make some elderberry jelly---someday. Do I need to put something over the flower heads?

I have a pretty little wild rose that grows near the side of the house. They grow out back near the field here too. That has me wondering of someone transplanted it years ago.

Julie that is beautiful picture you took of wild prairie rose. Love that gorgeous pink color!

Very pretty flower. I think we might have them here but not sure. I am spending $$$$ on landscaping and when he is done I need to plant some flowers. There is one large oval bed that is between two large trees, so partially shaded all the time. There will be three rose bushes and maybe a birdbath there then some iris and lily bulbs that are being transplanted. What else should I plant? I also need some low bushes for the front.

Marilyn, Elderberries grow wild here. There never seems to be a shortage of them. I would think that it would work to put some kind of netting on them for protection. Netting is used here to keep birds out of the cherry trees. We have to work fast to get our cherries picked before the birds wipe them out. Our trees are dwarf ones.

I'd love to try and grow blueberries, but I think it would be a difficult since we live next to a woods and out in back would be the best place to plant them. Lots of animals would love to eat them.

Brenda, Blueberries aren't hard to grow but you are right, you would have to protect them from the animals. The deer come and get the mulberries out back so I have to keep my eyes peeled so I can get out there. We have some on the side so I can get those if they get to the others before me. The also come right into the back yard and eat the apples. Mostly the fallen ones but they've been known to pick their own.

I agree on the netting. We usually go to a u-pick for our cherries but because we had snow/frost in April there aren't any this year and I refuse to pay 5$ a pound for them. Waiting for the blueberries and blackberries to come on.

Our blackberries were so big and nice this year. My husband picked one bucket full then Julie and Hadlee picked another. We had fresh berries with a bit of sugar and cream and Julie made two big cobblers, giving us one. I put two bags in the freezer. The birds also had some to enjoy.

My mother had that problem with birds and her cherry tree in Illinois. if she saw cherries she had to pick them right away or the birds beat her to them.

Thanks Brenda, I was thinking of some net bonnets for the flower/ tiny berry heads. Hopefully I can save enough for a bit of jelly.

I have to get to my grapes before the turkeys get them here. They aren't usually ready until August though. I have never had enough to pick in order to make jelly. Hoping to get some this year.

Linda, bleeding hearts do well in the shade, too, and there's always hosta. There are so many new varieties of hosta, it's amazing.

My parents had a cherry tree, and it was always a race to see if we could get enough for at least one pie before the birds got them!

Happy Day!
