Here are a few questions to get our discussion of the book"Sheepish" going. I thought using only three questions would keep the discussion lively and not look overwhelming.

1. Did you find this book to be thought-provoking or inspiring? If so, in what way.

2. Did you enjoy the writer's style? Why, or why not?

3. Could you personally relate to anything in the book? If so,what?

Looking forward to a fun discussion!

Happy Day!

I'm trying to find it. My HPB doesn't have it. Need to see if the local library has it.

1. I think my answer to this would be yes, lol. We are actually discussing having sheep now ;)

2. There are parts of this book I could have done without. Call me prudish, but I didn't need the lesbian comments, or the "not necessarily clean" chapter titles. With that said, I found the author's blunt and quirky writing style refreshingly honest. There is such a "beautifying" of farm life that many miss the idea behind it - and the fact that it is work. It is not all fun and games.. there is death... there are accidents... there are learning experiences. I actually went ahead and got her other book as well.

3. I had to laugh about the part regarding planning everything out on paper. That is so me! We are still trying to plan our future homestead out on paper, and we do not even have property yet! The other part I could really relate to is the losing of yourself to everything else... With a military hubby, household, seven children, home school, coordinating a penpal program for homeschooled children, etc, there is solitude time to do anything else.. for me. Much like she gets writer block, I get crafter's block and learning blocked. I am a learner at my core... I loved school and still do... I will probably be a professional student all my life ;) It is hard to find that balance... to still be yourself rather than just what is going on around you and what you have to do.... to still have my identity.

Thanks, Shannon! I have to agree with you on pretty much all all your answers. Here's my two cents:

1. I was inspired by this book in several ways, but two stand out. First it really is a story of finding your true self, no matter what the setting you find yourself in. That so important in life, and never easy. Second, and on a much more practical note, it inspired me to seek out more small- farm produced fibers for my projects.

2. I loved her style. It was humorous, I laughed out loud quite a few times. But there was also warmth and intelligence and a good-natured honesty that really grabbed me.

3. Boy, could I relate! Growing up, my cousin's who did live on a farm teased me relentlessly about being such a softee. My Dad and Uncle said if I ever did have a farm, it would be an old-age home for animals. I related to their struggle to stay unsentimental about their animals while still respecting and caring for them. They did way better than I would. Which is why if I ever get a few chickens, they will live in luxury until the time of their natural death LOL :) After reading this I now also want a sheep or two, but that's just the dreamer in me. anyway, I loved this book!

Happy Day!
