Day 31: I don't think I've driven anywhere that had meters. lol. I'm such a small town driver.

Today, I'm grateful that we are beginning to plan our trip to Upper Michigan! We're going on a trip to Paradise! Paaradise, MI, that is. lol.

Day 32: Loved the smell of new crayons! And love the colors more than the act of coloring...just couldn't stay within the lines. Still love seeing new boxes. People who break crayons or peel the paper off raggedley (is that a word?) are just irritating.

I'll finish reading the book although, it was not what I expected. Is it time to apply for the badge?

So I went back and re-counted the days. With us starting on June 15th, and today being July 23rd, today should be day 39 :) I actually was on target for my days - wooohoooo. Looks like you ladies have some catching up to do ;)

Day 35: Today I am thankful for the sound of frogs! There is something very soothing about hearing frogs in the evening :)
Day 36: Today is "Global Hug Your Kid Day" - I am very grateful for the blessing to have my babies! We have lost quite a few, so I really treasure the ones I have on this earth with me!
Day 37: Today I am thankful that my hubby was able to take this week off on leave! With feeling so very very ill, I have needed him home to help!
Day 38: Today I am thankful for an OB that "understands" my quirkiness. She knows that if it was my choice, I would have a home birth, but due to two c-sections, I am not legally allowed... So she works with my "natural" desires within the hospital setting as much as she can!
Day 39: Today I am thankful for the internet... who knew how lonely and isolating it can be without that connection! In a world that neighbors no longer interact near as much, and people do not get together very often, I really "need" my Farmgirl sisters!

Day 40: Today I am thankful for the hilariousness of squirrels. Before you think I am nutty - let me explain :) There is something amusing about watching a squirrel scurry around finding nuts - and even more hilarious when it gets itself into the chicken run, but cannot seem to find its way out. A good laugh indeed!

Day 41: Today I am thankful that the old house is done :) No more going back to paint, repair, or clean. It will be nice to only go there once a week to check on the garden and cut the grass.

Day 42: Today I am thankful for a local blueberry pick-yor-own farm. Yesterday morning we went blueberry picking and though we only picked half the amount of blueberries that we normally pick (mommy is still very sick!) we still picked enough for some blueberry treats at a much reduced rate then you can get them in the store for!

With being so off compared to everyone else, I am kinda worried about writing about what I've read in the "Book of Awesome." But, I guess that goes with the badge, so I just need to write about what I am reading!?!? Today, for my reading, was "when the things you were going to buy is already on sale." Oh my! How I can relate! Though I am not sure I ever make it out of the store with one item, as my list is never that short, I relish in the delight of when one or more of the items I have on my list are for sale! With having six kids, and having to eat gluten free, our food bill is the most expensive bill of every paycheck! Sale items are indeed something to embrace :D

Shannon, I don't think you need to write about the reading. The badge just says to read one a day and keep a gratitude journal. I didn't comment on all of them in my posts.

Day 43: Today I am thankful that I have nowhere to go :) I enjoy days at home with my children, with only the normal daily activities of school, laundry, and housework. Does it get monotonous at times? Yes.... but oh how I missed it!

Day 44: Today I am thankful for homemade blueberry cheesecake ice cream that we splurged on last night. Oh my it was yummy, and there is something about ice cream when you do not feel well or are stressed. Yes, I know this is called stress eating, but my oh my it was delicious ;)

Joyce - which letters are you struggling with? I think my hardest (by far) will be the newspaper article. The hospital I am totally cheating on - I will bring a letter with me to the hospital when Emi is born :) I already wanted to write one to the OB I see. The police are difficult for me in that a) we just moved, but also b) I have no use for the police in our old county after everything happened with the neighbor! I know they were just doing their job, but I had never felt so unprotected!

It's all of them really, Shannon. I'm just not sure what to write - I've never done it before - and I'm such a person that doesn't want to get publicly recognized, so the newspaper is by far the hardest for me. Any ideas would be lovely :)

Here is what I am doing... and perhaps this is something you might enjoy as well.... I am actually talking with kids (think school, lol), about each of the areas we are to write gratitude letters to... We are probably going to spend two or three days on each group. We are doing activities based on the group (especially for my preschoolers) and then my older children that can write are writing letters to thank them. Then, I am writing a thank you card that the letters will be enclosed in, and it is this that will be handed out/mailed. For me, it is easier to look at it from a teacher/student perspective.

The newspaper.... ummm yeah..... I think I am going to do it anonymously, lol. And write more about what the kids and I get out of the experience then anything. I'll let you know as I get closer to that one!

That sounds great Shannon - the problem here is that they won't publish anything anonymously in the newspaper :( It has to be attached with a name. I'd love to hear what other gals are doing in this regard - and you too, Shannon!

Judith, that is so funny about crayons. I love the smell of a new box of crayons in the fall. To me that says it is time for school. Having spent all but six years of my life with young kids, crayons have always been close to my heart. I do peel paper off, break, etc. For shading. I taught elementary art for seven of my thirty years. Teaching g children to shade, color skies and grass quickly involves peeled crayons. Don't beat yourself up about coloring inside lines. That is a first grade thing. It drives me nuts when I am in a classroom where one kid is holding g up our days work because his/her picture must be perfect. If they will be cutting their picture out, I tell them to color big, color quick and ignore those lines. It always amazes me the tricks teachers must use, like making the cutting lines very bold for three and four year olds.

Day 45: Today I am thankful for a doctor willing to call me in a prescription, without seeing me! I am not one to normally take antibiotics, so when I sent my doctor an e-mail saying I needed one, she was all over it, lol. The last time I needed one was last August due to a sinus infection and I was about to go to Johns Hopkins to meet with the anesthesiologist for my surgery (couldn't be sick or they would have cancelled my surgery!). Anyways, she called in an antibiotic for me, and I started taking it yesterday. Health here I come ;)

Day 47: Today I am thankful for pre-prepared breakfast! I am taking my oldest horseback riding this morning... along with all the other kiddos. So yesterday, I actually thought ahead and had her make a coffee cake for this morning's breakfast. So glad I did, as we are almost ready to head out the door, and we still have 10 extra minutes :)

Shannon, I love your perseverance! Technically I think for the next level we don't have to continue the gratitude thread. At least it doesn't say that in the requirements, just to continue with the book. Still, it is a healthy thing to do, so I don't see any reason not to. I'll add to it when I can. :)

Today I'm thankful for time spent with family. Last night we went to a surprise birthday party for my aunt and uncle. They both turned 60 this year, and their birthdays were in January and April, but their kids decided to throw them a party now because their son, his wife, and 8 month old baby were visiting from San Diego. They were completely surprised, and it was a really fun time!
