So...I am still trying to get this table runner finished. Seems I get a good start on it and then something comes along to keep me busy. Usually the grandchildren LOL! What's a Mimi to do? I can't give up spending my time with the littles. When this visit is over I am going to try to schedule my days a little more. I need to get some things for myself prioritized. Hard when so many people have so many things for me to do. I work with my husband doing his office work and I am taking care of whatever my dad needs then of course the regular household things. (In these I am sorely lacking at times) Many things get put on the back burner. This kind of turned into a little vent, sorry. |

Denise, as the kids say "I feel you!" I have had to really work at carving out time to do what recharges my battery, and you should too! I know it's hard. Everyone else's needs seem so much more critical. But you still have to feed your soul. Hang in there, Sister!

Alicia, this photo is brighter than the one on the forum and Henrietta really turned out nicely! You will have to keep us posted with photos on what projects you use her on. It is going to be fun to get planning on getting Henrietta pecking about your Homestead! |

My current project is a tee shirt quilt. It is for the son of a friend I used to teach with. It will be large, including high school, fun and college shirts, including every sport. I am always amazed how some old tees turn into a neat keepsake for someone. This will be a surprise for him. Hopefully I will finish it by the fourth. I have other things calling my name. |

Marilyn,
I have heard of the t shirt quilts but have never done one. How to you keep the material from stretching? |

Matt is working a 16 tonight. I should SO be working. I am exhausted though! Isabelle wanted a real meal. Gabriel and I harvested dinner, but also all the carrots. And I made homemade bread to go with Veggie Pilaf and Greens. I am just so darn wiped out! Maybe tomorrow I can get to work. I finished 2 ITH freestanding lace hearts for a swap before we left to get Isabelle yesterday. And boy do I have a list! Tomorrow I just know I will feel somewhat back to normal...Right? |

Alicia, I love love love Henrietta! You are really something, no wonder you feel exhausted!
Marilyn, I would love to know more about the t-shirt quilt. A dear friend of mine wants me to help her make one from her late husband's t-shirts. I can sew, but know pretty much nothing about quilting. Is the t-shirt quilt difficult?
I just finished cross-stitching a dishtowel for a swap. It really came out nice, it has a little dog with wings and a halo, and it says"All dogs are angels at heart." I'll try to post a photo. |

Alicia, Henrietta is adorable. Question, why do you stitch on felt?
Marilyn, you're a brave one to attempt a T shirt quilt. I have never made one. Are you used a stabilizer for the T-shirts?
Amy, would love seeing a picture of your towel.

Denise, in the past I have ironed a stabilizer on to the back of the graphics, but that is not foolproof. Tee shirt quilts are not nice and flat like a normal quilt. I have done several over the past twenty years. I have used light weight, and mid weight stabilizers. They do not fuse very well and require a lot of time and patience. Stripping each block with fabric helps, but the quilt becomes huge. This one was Texas Aggie shirts surrounded by Cotton Bowl shirts then surrounded by High School shirts. I used fabric strips to frame each set of shirt panels. This young man had really worn his shirts. So when cutting the squares or rectangles oh my. I see quilts advertised where every square is the same size. I have never made one that was that way. I like to take the little graphics, pockets, etc. And stitch those in different places over the quilt. A tee shirt quilt is more like a comforter, kinda fluffy because it is tied together. I tie with embroidery thread. I thread four needles, each with a skein of emb. Thread. Then I make a long run of stitches, below each block, in the center of each block (if possible), above or between each block. It is sort of like a long basting stitch, but further apart. Then I go back and cut the thread and tie the knots. This quilt was king sized and I was able to tie it in two hours, even with a fifteen minute Rest My Back break. If you make a tee shirt quilt, sheets make great fabric to Back your quilt. Thankfully Wal-Mart had maroon sheets. They also have A&M/Aggie fabric. |

Marilyn, That definitely sounds like a lot of work!
Alicia, VBS hasn't started here yet. Do you think we could see a picture of the hats when you get one done? Sounds like a great idea! |

I managed to remember to take a picture of the dishtowel I cross-stitched for the swap before I packed it up.
I'm so happy with the way it came out. I also knitted her a dish cloth with a dog image sort of"embossed" on it.
Today I'll be knitting a teeny, tiny sweater Christmas ornament and doing some hand sewing for a swap on the big site. Trying to finish my swap projects before vacation! |

Very nice Amy. Did you cross stitch the design on a regular dish cloth? Thank you for posting a picture. I so enjoy looking at everyone's projects. Cheers! |
