A few days ago, I finished this vest. Last December, we traveled to Iceland after Christmas and had a wonderful time. Iceland raises a variety of thick long haired sheep and they make beautiful wool into sweaters, gloves, hats, socks etc. for their long cold winters. There are also many yarn shops with skeins of gorgeous wools to purchase. I was like a kid in a candy store. Recently, I got out my wool and had this idea to create a block color vest to wear with a new shirt I had purchased. I combined two easy patterns ( I am a beginner knitter) and made up the color scheme as I went along. Here is my final product.

Right now it is 90+ degrees and humid every day. Thinking about wearing this seems like some far off distant dream but I am hoping next January and February bring us a few cold days so that I can enjoy wear this vest!!

The sweater turned out lovely! We have talked about raising icelandic sheep when we move, but sheep seem to be so "dumb" and always "suicidal." We have also looked at alpaca and angora rabbits for yarn purposes.

Hey Everyone,

Looks like we are all keeping out of trouble by being busy! lol

Winnie, I do like that vest! What a wonderful souvenir of your trip in Iceland.

I haven't had much time at my sewing machine. I have mostly been doing a bit of hand work at night. So enjoy English Paper Piecing. I did manage to finish a UFO top. Always such a good feeling to complete something. The quilt measures 14" x 17" and I used 1/2 inch hexagons.

It may not look like much but I have over a gazillion hours of hand stitching on that quilt. You'd be amazed at how much time it takes .... but I love it. That's all that matters! lol I planned for this quilt to be used on Kit's bed. Pumpkins loves American Dolls and I think it will be perfect for Kit's bed, don't you?

Carole, that is so pretty!

I have fabric to make a quilt for my granddaughter. Guess I better get going. She is only nine but if I don't get in gear it will be a wedding present some day instead. Lol.

Carole, your project is beautiful!! Enjoy your quiet days with the family off busy doing something else too. Solitude can be so invigorating sometimes. It just gives you a moment to feel the calm wash over in a wonderful peace.

Beautiful, just beautiful Carole! If I ever get myself organized enough to start learning quilt making, I plan on doing it all by hand. The idea of all hand-work quilts really captures my imagination. Right now, though, I'm devoting myself to knitting Christmas presents. I'm doing a scarf for my brother that's kind of like an Aran sampler piece with three different cable patterns. Another big learning e experience!

Happy Day!

Winnie, love the sweater. Carole, I know how many hours it takes to make hexies. But it's my favorite quilt. Nice job.

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments on my hexe quilt. I "FINALLY" pieced the Ring Toss quilt (by Cluck Cluck Sew - love the name of her company)!

Goodness, it took forever for me to sit myself down at my machine and piece the darn thing. The blocks were all done!!!!!

It felt great to bond with my machine, so much so that I started another project! lol I have 5 rows pieced!

I need to purchase a backing for it and onward to a date with Penelope! I have a couple of quilts that needs machine quilting!

What have you been up to? Do share!

Carole that is a gorgeous quilt - love the theme. I wish I could sew! When my house is built (finally, eventually!) I will set up a table for sewing. I used to do it years ago. Would love to make something as pretty and clever as the items here.

Thank you ladies!

Lexi, for the record, I do not sew, I quilt! lol Quilting is a straight line! Sewing (clothes, curtains etc. ) makes me crazy. Although I did just make a laundry bag for Pumpkin to take to College.

My first ever button holes.

But ..... don't tell anyone. I wouldn't want to tarnish my reputation! lol

Anytime anyone needs assistance with quilting, give me a shout! I would be happy to share my knowledge!

Carole, great button holes! :) What a cheerful, happy laundry bag to remind her of home and you! I really hope to make a quilt sometime, and I guarantee I'll be knocking on your virtual door when I do!

Carole,
What a great bag! I love to quilt too, I just don't get the time to do it like I used to. But I have made quilts and have some in progress for the family. Quilting is so relaxing. Do you do it by hand? I do the top with the machine but I do the actual quilting by hand.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Denise, I machine piece and machine quilt my tops. I used to hand quilt but I now have other "hand" projects that have taken its place like, hand embroidery, hand applique, wool work, English paper piecing and the list goes on. lol Quilting is my de-stresser, it is my way of taking a respite from the world. Did recently complete this little quilt:

I call it "Bear tracks through the woods!" The fabric is from the Holly Taylor line Winter Song (Moda) and I used a charm pack for the center. My first time ever working with a charm pack! I changed the pattern a bit! Quilter's prerogative On my to do list is to kit this for my customers!

I do have a quilt on my design wall just waiting for me to finish! I haven't had much time to quilt as of late, but I can see more quilting time in my future! lol

Enjoy your day everyone! Cheers!

I love to do handwork too but anymore with arthritis starting I don't know how much longer I'll be able to do it.
The Bear Claw is beautiful too. Love those colors and I agree with Winnie, a feeling of fall.

I know that issue of arthritis in the hands when trying to do crafting. Sometimes, I have an awful problem if I knit too long or embroider with my right hand. Repetitive motion also stir up the chronic tennis elbow in my right arm as well. It really makes me aware that I have to do all things in moderation sometimes or I pay the price!! LOL!! Are we getting old?? LOL!!
