The book "Soul of a Horse" is available for reading. It was a surprise to me that I found it interesting. My husband talks about horses all of the time and I thought I had heard it all. :-) Any takers?
Kathy
p.s. CJ, if no one wants to read it should I hang on to it or return it to its owner? |

Kathy, Go ahead and just send "Soul of a Horse" back to me . . . unless you hear from someone else before you put it in the mail.
Thanks! CJ

CJ - At first I thought that MB=321 were the all the badges that you earned! LOL but after going back and seeing some of the old posts I'm guessing that is how many we have all earned together? How cool is that |

Laura, Oh sorry . . . I guess I should have clarified that. Nope, not me by myself. It is for just the "chicks" in OUR LITTLE HENHOUSE!!!!! AWESOME!!!!
Just a bit of trivia: there is the possibility for a Farmgirl to earn a total of 168 badges, NOT including any of the "Schoolmarm" or the "Head Mistress" badges.
There ya' have it! CJ

All,
Help! Something is killing one of my pumpkin plants. The leaves themselves are yellowing and there is something black on the vines, leaves, etc. They have been turning yellow for sometime; however, my husband just kept telling me I overwatering. Now that I can see some black forming on the vines, I know it's not overwatering. Also, the other two pumpkin plants get the same amount of water and they are very green and healthy. Could the black be squash bugs? Should I cut out the bad vine before the other two succumb to the same fate? Any advice anyone can give me would be most appreciated. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Rali |

Rali, If it is squash bugs you should be able to see them crawling all over, especially under the leaves. The result sounds the same, but you should be able to see active bugs. We lost ALL of our pumpkins, winter squash and summer squash to the bugs. They were HORRIBLE and we could not control them (we don't use chemical, toxic insecticides). They are unmistakble and destructive. They will destroy the vine and eventually the "fruit" will die. You can control them with dishsoap in water in a spray bottle but you have to stay on them CONSTANTLY! They lay tiny little eggs in clusters under the leaves and they are kind of an amber color. So, if they are bugs get after them with the spray and be consistent and you should be okay. If that's not it I'm not sure what it would be. Hope you don't lose them. I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO discouraged and disappointed at our loss. We had them last year, which was the first year but we were able to control them. We plan to clean up the debris and burn it here pretty soon and then won't be planting any of that kind of stuff next year . . . hopefully try to "cycle through" and not have them again. Wishing you the best!! CJ

I wanted to earn my tatting badge, but didn't really know where to start (as in, I had heard of tatting but had no idea what it really was). I thought you had to have all these special needles and spindles, etc. There is a video lesson on beginning tatting on the MaryJanes TV part of the website, and it looks so easy!

Thanks CJ: I appreciate the vote of confidence in my tatting ability. Actually I learned needle tatting out of MJ's book. It just takes practice.

Time for me to get back to badges. I was gone for all of September for work and no time to do much of anything.
GO Amy!!
I have two books now ready if anyone wants them. "Heirlooms" and the second Bee book. Any takers?
CJ, if no one is ready for them yet, do you want me to hang on or send them your way?

Laurie,
Hang on to them for a bit . . . I'll send a HENHOUSE EMAIL out so that everyone gets it and see what response we get.
Kathy still has SOUL OF A HORSE too . . . I think, unless someone responded to her to send to her. So, we'll see.
THANKS! CJ

I will drop it in the mail soon. I will have to wait until I get paid again. Bills piled up this month. But if anyone needs it before the 15th just let me know.
I am excited I earned my first badge today! Doing the happy dance.

Rali, I don't think anyone is waiting for "MONTROSE" yet. So far, most everyone who is working on badges has red it. So, go ahead and read it . . . If someone does say they are ready for it then I'll let you know. It's a beautiful book but tedious to read.
Hope you get some pumpkins!!!! CJ

All,
The news from the pumpkin patch isn't great. I cut out one of the vines (covered in some type of aphid) before it infected the other two plants. Unfortunately, it was the only vine with a pumpkin on it. The good news is there were a lot of bees busy polinating flowers on the two remaining vines. Hopefully, my son and I will realize at least one pumpkin. I'm optimistic as, we are just entering the good growing season.
Sincerely,
Rali |
