wohoo! Go Rali. I've definitely focused on a one or two areas that I do in daily life and that adds up quick.

Have fun

CJ has the list of books that we are sharing. Just let her know which ones you need and she will put you on the mailing list to receive them.

Deboie,

I suggest that if you are going to work on Merit Badges, you look the list over (available as a pdf file in that section on the Connection) and decide where you want to start.
Take it one step at a time . . . there are a lot of them but you don't want to overwhelm yourself.

I made a list starting with a few of the ones I could do right away, then some that would come later. Then there were the ones that had to wait.

You'll know, by reading the list of requirements, which ones have required reading. When you have decided which ones to work on then you'll be able to know which . . and if you start with one with required reading . . book to start with. There is a partial list on the first page of this "Merit Badges" thread in one of my posts.

And, feel free to ask questions . . . again, don't let it overwhelm you!!! Earning badges is NOT required . . and it should be fun!!!

Let me know how else I (we) can help!

My herb garden has really taken off. I am so excited about it. Working on this badge has been a good one to start with.

Thank You Laurie,
I just got a few more plants today to start in pots for the winter and they were half price at a local nursery and found a great book on growing herbs and a great cookbook with some wonderful recipes.

I will have to take some pictures and post on my blog for yall to see.
I am so excited. I have never been able to grow things but apparently herbs are "forgiving" with those of us who sometimes overwater or underwater. I am thinking my talking to them lovelying can't hurt..hahehe

Thanks Kathy. I have to get busy reading! It's been so busy. I've been working up the BFs website. Check it out. And please let me know if you see any errors, as I've worked on it so much I may have missed, or anything else for that matter, I'd love some feedback.

Laurie, Did I miss a previous post? I didn't know about your B&B. That's something that has always sounded interesting to me, owning a B&B.

I wouldn't worry about the book. No one else is waiting to read it. It was a quick and fun read. It's my favorite of the books for badge requirements (other than "Secret Life of Bees") so far. I actually found it interesting. lol

Laurie:
Your website for your B&B is really cute. How do you find time to run a B&B and work on Merit Badges at the same time? I can hardly do the MB's. LOL- Maybe some day Jim and I can come up your way and spend a day or two with you.

I read the book in a day.

AND ANYONE . . . ready for "Gardening with Heirloom Seeds"?? That one is available as well. Required for beginning level of "HEIRLOOMS FOREVER".

Well the B&B is the boyfriend's and I only help occasionally. Mostly just working on the website for him. someday it may be more full time. ;) And fortunately the B&B isn't always busy. It's a side business for him with the orchard being the main, though with this years bad cherry crop the B&B has been good.

I need heirlooms, so I better get reading. I'll let you know when I am ready for it.

I have finished with "Soul of a horse". Oh my gosh. I feel rather stupid after reading that book and how we treat horses. It sure opened my eyes and helped when the pasture horse bolted right by us when we were picking blackberries. I didn't freak and the horse settled down as soon as he got past me. He hit some barbed wire right above his hoof where he already had a cut.

I recommend this for everyone to read even if you aren't ready for that badge.

Who gets it next oh hen honcho?

If no one else wants to read "Soul of a Horse" I'll take it. I'm leaving for vacation in a couple of weeks but I think I can get it read before then.

After thinking more about it, I don't have time to read the horse book right now. Someone else can have it and I'll get it when they're done.

"Soul of a Horse" IS an enjoyable read . . and fairly quick.
It is VERY interesting . . . and enlightening.

I was happy to learn that the horse rescue that I "connected" with here locally follows most of that theory in the book. Made me appreciate even more the way we cared for our horse, Ginger, a chestnut bay mare that I rode to school. Yup . . rode to school!!
Grades one through eight!!!

Wow, Laurie! You're fast. If no one else is waiting on the book I may read it when I get back from vacation. Yesterday I had several books come in at the library that I have to read and return before I leave. I'm thinking my husband may want to read the horse book as we have horses and that's about the only topic he ever cares to read about. He can read it while I'm gone, again that's if no one else is waiting on it.

I want to tell you all about my latest project for "Each Other" Community Service badge. I have been volunteering at La Bodega which is through our church and is for the NMSU community students/staff. We furnish lunch each week-day from 11-1:00 for $1.00. It's to help anyone who is in need of a good lunch. Our church members furnish the food and we cook and serve it in individual portions and after the students pay they just pick up a plate of food and a beverage. it has been very rewarding but also very time consuming. I hope I can continue since this takes about 3 hours a day for 5 days a week. Thanks for reading my little story.

Love-

Rusty, that is a big time commitment right in the middle of the day. That's great that you're willing to do that and it sounds like a wonderful thing for the recipients.
