Well, I got a phone call last night from my daughter in WA to tell me my grandson broke his leg playing in a football game. She sent me a photo of the x ray and it's a bad break. He has to see an Orthopedic surgeon as it will need pins and there's a bone chip stuck in soft tissue. Poor kid. He'll be out for the rest of the season if not permanently and that includes basketball. He'll have a pretty miserable year. Tomorrow my granddaughter graduates from AIT with the army and has two weeks recruiting at home before going to Ft. Stewart, GS. She told her brother she'd help take care of him while she's home. Bless her.

A cold front is coming our way and the weather alerts are out. We could get heavy rain and definitely high winds and colder temps. Tomorrow will only go in the 60's. I was hoping to plant the rest of the trees but don't know if it will be possible.

I am off to get some things in the mail. Hope everyone has a great day.

WELCOME HOME PEGGY ANN!!! Glad you had a great time. Sorry that it had to end so awful. Poor thing! BIG (((gentle))) hugs girlfriend!
WOW! It's weird to hear that Calif. is getting cold, crappy weather. I guess it's everywhere huh? We are finally having bright sun/60 today, after all that rain and cold. So pretty...make a feller appreciate the sun when it pops out!

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?

We have been so blessed with beautiful weather here in Illinois! I am loving it. Woohoo! I weighed in at WW yesterday and lost 4.4 lbs. I seriously did not think I was losing anything on this new points plus program. I am so happy. :)
I took my son's GF to St Louis yesterday for a little shopping and to the Arch. We even got our daily walk in on the Arch grounds. Decided since we were there we might as well walk for awhile. I have the "MapMyWalk" app on my phone so it is easy to see my distance and pace.We also went into Alton, Ill and drove down the "Great River Road" to Grafton, Ill. Beautiful this time of year. I also couldn't resist take her by to see the World's tallest man "Robert Wadlow". It was a good day and I got to know her so much better.
We went to the local auction house last night and they headed back to Ohio from there. :( Hubby decided to wait until the weekend to go to Ohio. He and our son from Fort Leonard Wood, Mo will ride out there on their motorcycles.

Lynn - I know exactly where Panama is. About 22 years ago I was trying to take a shortcut from my sis's in Brighton to Brownstown and didn't want to have to drive all the way up to Litchfield. Figured I could cut across and ended up in Panama. I was lost and stopped a police officer to ask where I was and he gave me a sobriety test. Looking back over the entire ordeal it was pretty funny. I had a new van and couldn't figure out how to turn the dome light on and he questioned ownership of the van. I suppose I did appear "guilty"...lol. By the time it was over, he pointed my way back to a familar highway (127) and offered to buy me a cup of coffee if I ever came back into town. I was totally lost but as a child I used to go fox hunting with my dad in Sorento and Panama.

Darlys - I fly into San Jose. I will make a point to get in touch next visit. :)

Peggy Ann - Glad you had a good time with your girlfriends on the coast. What a way to get a good dose of Vitamin F! I hope you are rested and back to yourself soon. :)

Betty - Prayers for your grandson for a speedy recovery and no complications. I will say a prayer that he will be healed as good as new and back on the field. :)

Well girls, kids are all gone so it's back to real time life today. :) Have a good productive day. :)

Patty, you have no idea how your post about fox hunting in Sorento and Panama made me feel. My grandpa, Clifford Hicks, was a founding memeber of the Shoal Creek Fox Hunters. I even attended a Shoal Creek Hunt, as a child, and placed second in the horn blowing contest. I have so many wonderful memories of time spent in Illinois. It was all those visits that gave me a love for farms and the rural life. I have many family memebers still in Panama and a cousin in Sorento.

Betty, we will be praying for your grandson and the family as they care for him.

Peggy Ann, sure sounds like you had a great time with your girlfirends. Rest up.

Looking forward to reading the posts of the day tonight after I get home from work. Have a happy day!

Well the storm front is here. I had to wear jeans and socks this morning, it's that cold. Ther was a lovely rainbow when I went out to feed the chickens between raindrops. I got three new hens yesterday and they seem to be doing all right. I got a Plymouth Rock, a moran andan Americauna. They're really sweet birds. They've been tamed really well and will eat out of my hand and come up to me to be petted. My Wellsummer is moulting and she is aweful to look at. Poor thing! She's pathetic. The Wyandotte is still on her eggs with about 13 days to go. I hope the bantam eggs I put under hatch all right.

It's a stay inside day today so I can work on some more mesh scrubbies and I have to make brownies to take to the lodge tonight as we always have a dinner the first Wed. of the month. I'm about halfway through a baby afghan for my first great grandbaby. I finished the one for DH's new gr. gr.baby due in Dec.

A neighbor gave me a huge amount of elderberries yesterday. Thank fully they're frozen. She make pancake syrup out of hers but thought I might make some jam. Will have to look for a recipe although I imagine any berry recipe would work.

Have a good day everyone.

Good Afternoon everyone. I have been hard at work in the studio and the last load of laundry i son the line. i am also packing as I go along and getting food ready to take with me. I do not eat festivsl food. Much to fatty for my liking!! So I am making some kiebasa stew to take with me and all the makings for ruebens.

Betty.....I did not get any elderberries this year and I am almost out of elderberry tincture. So I hope I have enough to make it thru the winter.

Glenda.....I look forward to seeing the smock when you are done. They are fun to make and like you say........easy. I will always do a remake when ever possible.

I am going to get back to the studio and get some more finished after I get dinner ready to go in the oven. I will make baked beans. ANd then in a 9x13 pan I will drain a quart of kraut and put in one end of the pan. Place turkey kiebasa on top. Wash 2 large baking potatoes and put next to the kraut and then some fresh carrots next to the potatoes. All will go in the oven together and walla dinner is served!

See ya'll later on.

I just have to respond to a couple of posts before I tack on the "news from our neighborhood."

Betty, sorry to hear about your grandson. When the kids are really "into" sports the downtime is not fun. Will keep him in prayer for a full, and quick as possible, recovery. One of my grandsons plays football and has just been recruited for the base team at Camp Pendleton. He's in the Marines.

Hi Patty - Won't you be my neighbor? I can still hear Mr. Rogers' voice. My 35 year old son loved watching Mr. Rogers when he was a little guy. I'm maybe 10 minutes from the San Jose airport. We will definitely plan to have a connection when you next visit your daughter. Neat pictures!

The heaviest rain hit here in drenching sheets with wind about 8:30 this morning. It looks like it is clearing here and is pretty nice out right now.

Kim, dinner is what time?

Well, here is what is making national news right now. Less than a mile up the road from us - a disgruntled worker at the quarry shot and killed 2 people and injured 6 others. He had to pass by our little (gated, thank goodness) community as it's the only road going to and from the plant. It happened early this morning. We heard helicopters before we were even up this morning - apparently searching our area. At that point we didn't know what was going on but thought it was a bit early for traffic watch. Larry left for work and detoured to avoid a bunch of patrol cars at the corner where he would have turned (about 2 blocks away) to head to the freeway. Still didn't know, thought there might have been an accident or some such thing. Latest - we hear that a neighborhood (about 4 or 5 miles away near HP where the gunman shot a woman in the leg trying to carjack her car) has been evacuated and the authorities think they may be closing in. They are going door to door. Our area is still crawling with police and emergency vehicles even though the injured have been taken to hospitals and the 2 dead must have been taken away also. It's just a bit traumatic. There are more details in the news stories. We are a bit shaken and feel for the victims and their families - but otherwise are okay. It's just so tragic.

Not smiling or laughing this morning, girlfriends. Praying this morning, just praying.

One of the injured died. Now 3 dead.

Now I have another question...I bought some bobbins at JoAnns that I thought would fit my machine. Then when I got home I noticed that the package said for top drop-in bobbin cases...well they are not the right ones...lol...so I would like to give them to one of my Farmgirls over 50. They are class 66 bobbins..and here is the info on the back....Fits all singer class 66 models and some of the following machines: Baby Lock, Brother, and Simplicity. Bobbins not compatible with the following machinesL Bernina, Elna, Husquvarna/Viking, Janame/New Home and Pfaff. So after all that...please let me know if any of you can use them. I will send them to the first one that replies...thanks..

Thanks, Jan.

DS couldn't get home after class. He got out ... adding 15 minutes to his commute to school but he can't return -- there is a roadblock -- so nobody who got out is getting back home. I hope they take it down soon. But the gunman is still on the loose and they have widened the search area. I'm to stay indoors.

No laughter today. Still saying prayers .... and ironing.

Darlys...how tragic and horrific!!! I am praying for everyone's safety around your area. That man just
changed the lives of many people...especially the Families of the people he shot. What is wrong with this
World we live in?? It just keeps getting worse and worse...Praise God that He still sits on The Throne and He is in Control...even when tragic things happen. We may not understand the "WHY's" but we trust The One who understands ALL Things!

Kim...what do you use Elderberry Tincture for? And what time did you say dinner was?? I make Country Ribs with SauerKraut and cook them together in my Slow Cooker all day. You have made my mouth start watering Farmgirl. Yum-O!

Glenda...you would love that trip up Hwy 1 up along the Coast. It is Beautiful! Have made that trip both up and down and enjoyed it emmensly. Fibromyalgia is both a muscle (connective tissue) pain and a damaged nerve ending pain. Some people have it in one or two specific area's of their body and some people have just a constant ALL OVER their bodies pain. Mine is all over. I demonstrated to my Bible Study Ladies one day so they could relate somehow to what I live with daily. I had them each put 10 clothes-pins on their fingers and leave them there as long as they could endure they pain. Most only made it several minutes at the max. That is the pain that we deal with on a regular day. When we have Fibro Flares from such things as weather changes (barometric pressure)...we feel each and every storm system come in and go out. It helps if a system comes in and stays for a week or so...then our body acclamates to it. But if the systems are coming in and out (like 3-5 per day sometimes in the PNW) then our bodies shut down into Restoritive Sleep...trying to heel themselves. That is Fibro in a small nutshell so you can relate to your friends health issues. People with Fibro usually have many other health issues...especially various arthritises and chronic fatigue. Just to mention a few. Most people don't really understand...because the person looks pretty normal on the outside...but their body is attacking itself on the inside. It is an Auto-amune Diorder.

Betty...hope your new chickens do well and adjust to the rest of the broode. I am not a chicken or rooster person...wish I was, but when I was four years old I was attacked by a Banty Rooster while I was swinging and it scared the day-lights right out of me. To this day...I don't like to be around them. But I love to hear or read stories about people who love their chickens.

Judy...thanks for the big ol' Welcome Home! There is no place like HOME!

Well my lovely ladies over fifty...I need to do something productive today...before today becomes tomorrow.
Tomorrow my hubby is having a proceedure done in the Hospital at 7:00 am and I have to go with him as he won't be able to drive afterwards. I don't do 7:00 am well. And I have to teach Bible Study tomorrow night. It is going to be a really lllllloooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggggg day...pray for both of us.

blessings,
peggy

My prayers to all of you to keep you safe and healthy. My grandson sees the specialist Friday and we're pretty sure he will say surgery with possible pins. I wonder sometimes if children aren't pushed into sports too early before their bones have had a chance to grow and strenghten.

I have to leave in a minute for the lodge and the wind is blowing so hard we have a dust storm after all the rain we had this morning. I don't like driving in the wind. Tomorrow we leave for Bakersfield so DH can see the orthopedic specialist about his shoulder. I also plan to look for an outfit to wear to my granddaughters wedding. What I was going to wear won't go with my flowers. If I can't find something then I'll have to make a dressy top to go with some dress slacks. When you get to be my age it's hard to find the right clothes. They're all designed for you younger gals. Thank goodness I sew, but it's getting so close to leaving and I have lots to do yet.

Has anyone ever made elderberry jam? I found a recipe on the Internet. Since my neighbor gave me a huge bag of them I thought I might make some jam. I haven't made jam in several years now. I used to make it all the time back east when my children were home and I've made it since then when we had a big apricot tree in our back yard. I also want to make some lemon curd. I forgot how good it was until we went to San Francisco and I had a scone with lemon curd and clotted cream. Very English what? I used to have it as a little girl in England and that was many, many years ago.

I finished the net scrubbies I made to take back with me to NC so can get back to my baby afghan for a while.

Must run, DH is ready to go. At least I won't have to cook tonight but I made brownies this morning to take for dessert.

I'm sorry, girlfriends ... I'm so distracted today. The roadblock has been moved to our entry gate. Eric got home just a little bit ago. Said he had to go really slow to avoid hitting police swarming around our gate. The road to the quarry is roped off and there are still 3 patrol cars. We are supposed to stay indoors but I walked to the gate ... just a short walk ... and spoke to a patrolman. He said nothing new. Suddenly 2 of the officers jumped in their cars and took off. I just told the one I had spoken with to stay safe. He said "You bet! Now get home, okay?"

I'm home. Baking brownies. This is not fun.

Darlys.....stay safe and sing while you iron girlfriend! Do not let someone take that away from you. I have you and yours in my prayers.

PeggyAnne....we use it if we feel a cold or flu coming on. Google it and you can read more about it. I have not had a cold or flu in almost 20 years. I use the elderberry tinture at the first sign and I use the extreme germ killer that we discussed in another thread to clean with and we are well.

Betty.....I will have your grandson in my prayers that god will lift him and heal him and even the Dr.'s will be asking how it happened so fast. My youngest broke his arm when he was 16 yrs old playing soccer and to this day he will tell you that god changed his life when he allowed that to happen. It is amazing what god can do, and how he uses a tradgedy, when we are open to the learning.

I just stopped creating for the day. Just a few items to finish up in the morning. By noon I hope I will be ready to roll. I have already cleaned out the van and vacuumed it out. Took out the back seat and packed my tables and 5 tubs so far. I will pack the rest of the items and 1 table in the morning or early afternoon. I made Turkey kiebasa stew to take with me to the show anad I will have a small micro and a electric skillet. I do not eat festival food, to greasy for me.

Good morning ladies.

I had a busy day yesterday. Drove to south part of Jacksonville about hour away to shop. I did get some really nice fabrics to make a quilt for my youngest granddaughter, Kelly. that is what I will be doing in the sewing group for a while. This past Tuesday the lights went out for an hour due to the cable people hitting some electric wires while they were doing their cable work. All of us women had a good time just talking and sharing with our coffee and tea.

Betty, I am praying for your grandson. My son never liked sports very much even though his dad tried to push him into them. After he played football one year he quit and he only played baseball one year, too. He did like swimming so that is what he went out for. My granddaughters were into soccer and swimming.

Kim I use the elderberry, too. I use the juice and have been free of the flu and colds for 10 years. I don't get the flu shot. Last time I had one I got the flu that year. After that I began to do other things like hand washing, using the juice and boosting my immune system to fight colds and the flu. It has worked for me. I haven't tried the elederberry tinture. Sounds good. Have a great time at the festival. I can almost taste your turkey kiebasa. Yum!

Darlys, have they captured the man yet? If not stay safe. I am praying for you all. That is so scary to have happen.

I have this long list of "To Dos" that I keep adding to. I get ideas sometimes while I am in bed so I write them down and add them to the list. Well, just when I think I'm getting caught up on all the things I want to do, my brain gets creative and thinks up a bunch more. LOL No peace!!

I'm going to get my second cup of coffee now and take the dog for her walk. Clouds are building up in the south so we might get so rain this afternoon. Next week the big trucks will be coming with the tree cutters to thin out the forest area around us. They will be cutting out some of the pine trees and taking them to the mill on Amelia Island. Jacksonville used to be home to some paper mills so there are huge areas here where pine trees have been planted by those paper miills. It's going to get pretty noisy around her for a while.

Rest in Peace Steave Jobs.

Hugs all,

Nancy

I will try to list the birthdays each month so that you have plenty of time to get your cards out.

I am off to take my DH to the Hospital this morning for a minor surgical proceedure. We have to be there at 6:45 and I don't do mornings well! A nice Starbucks Coffee would do the trick! At least

I am up and moving this morning but I will admit not real fast. Finishing up some small tasks and took the dogs for a walk. Now i am having a cup of coffee with pumpkin spice creamer. And i believe I need a little food as well. A nap may be in my future this afternoon. I am not leaving for the show till around 11pm and I did not go to bed till 3pm and was up by 7:30am. ;)

What is everyone else planning this weekend?

Good morning friends. :) It is another beautiful day here in Illinois. I pray they last and last. I was in bed by 8:30 pm and stayed in bed until 7:30am. I had to be at the Dr. office for fasting lab work and figured the longer I stayed in bed the least amount of time I would have to whine about not having coffee or breakfast. But I feel wonderful and ready to face whatever comes my way.

Darlys - Oh what stress you have been through. I just saw that the gunman had been shot. What a relief, but such a sad situation for everyone. I pray for the families of all those lost and injured. I also pray for the family of the gunman. My heart goes out to them as well. I hope you are resting easily now.

Kim - Have a great time at the show and I hope you do well! We take our motorhome and our own food to the festivals but are never able to park near our booth, and sometimes the festival food is just so much quicker and smells so good. I have elderberry juice in the freezer, Can I make tincture from it?

Peggy Ann - Thanks for the birthday reminders. The last birthday card I sent (Darlys) sat at my mailbox all week before I finally took it to the post office. I don't get much mail and then the mail lady didn't pick it up. GGrrr

Nancy - I love to-do-list... though I rarely every scratch everything off. I even have 3 list sitting by m computer now that I keep laying here until I do them all...or toss them and start another. I wrote on my blog about to-do-list. http://ladygonegreen.blogspot.com/2011/04/why-do-we-make-to-do-list.html

Well chickies, I am off to get a late start on my day. :) Enjoy your day.

A rind is a terrible thing to waste. Compost.

When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.”

I will stop back later today.

Just want to say, as Patty picked up on the news, that the gunman has been killed by police. Not sure exactly where but know it was nearby. It was a rough day yesterday and sad ... but now we must move forward. Thank you all so much for prayers and support ... and just letting me move through the emotions of the day. Prayers are requested for all affected, victims, families, friends. And for all those shaken by being too close for comfort. It's over but the day will not soon be forgotten in our neighborhood. Thank you all for caring.

That is the best ... to laugh with someone because you both think the same things are funny.

Praying that God will mend broken bones, broken bodies and protect the helpless. "I know who holds the future and I know who holds my hand, with God things don't just happen, everything by Him is planned, so as I face tomorrow, with it's problems great or small, I will trust the God of miracles, give to Him my all!" (a chorus we sung in church) praying as you are brought to my mind.

Canned 13 quarts of chicken breast this week and going to make applesauce today. busy time. :)

Make my words soft and tender, for I may have to eat them. :)
