I'm having a hard time doing anything every day. I hope it is just the time of year but lately i cannot commit to anything. Quiet time, devotions, reading the Word.
Is anyone else struggling with this? Any suggestions?
It is just my hubby and myself and i honestly don't fill the days with parties and cookie exchanges but still....

Angie, I seem to go through phases of reading my Bible and not. If I don't do it first thing, my mind starts wondering and I won't ever stop to read. What I have started doing is if I read nothing else I try to read a little from Psalms or Proverbs. Cathy

cathy, I agree. If I don't begin my day with the Lord then within minutes, all the "other' stuff crowds in and then it's non stop. I do need to be more self disciplined when it comes to my time on the computer. I have become accustomed to turning it on first thing and of course we know what happens then! And my wanders so much these days. I just pray for a real desire, followed by action, to literally crave time with the Lord above all else.

I do....and I let guilt of a messy house stop me from devotions, Bible reading etc.

However, this past week, I have put all things aside and watched Joyce Meyer on-line.

I have a busy house, and it can be hard to find a "quiet" place to be anytime of the day.

Hi girls!

Angie - I'm having a bit of a struggle with things these past couple of weeks, too. You know what really seems to help, aside, of course, from prayer and quiet time with the Lord? Two things: Counting my blessings, and belting out hymns and worship songs and Christmas Carols to the Lord. No kidding. I'll sing by myself, or along with a CD or the radio. My voice may crack and I may be off key, but I know He doesn't mind! ;) Sometimes you just have to let your heart sing and invite the Holy Spirit to dance within you... it tickles... and then you're smiling... then your toes start tapping and your body starts swaying... and before you know it, you feel energetic, enthusiastic and just plain wonderful - like you can conquer the world! I know it sounds silly, but I'm telling you, it works for me every single time! :)

Oh! And this time of year, I always make homemade peppermint mocha coffee and top it with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and crushed peppermint candies. If the songs don't get your spirit moving, the cheery coffee definitely will! ;)

Love you all, sisters! 'Hope you're having a Merry Christmas season!

Giggles -

Nini, you are so right! Those blessings sure do add up when you take the time to count them and it brings everything back into perspective. and i have found that if i just listen to the Christian radio stations, even when I'm at work, just having it in the background is a gentle reminder of the Lord and his goodness.
I wonder if, as believers, we are more vulnerable to having the "blues" at this time of year. because we are human and are as busy and overwhelmed with the world we live in as everyone else, but we "know" how we are "supposed" to feel so it's like we add a burden to ourselves.
i think I'm going to make me a hot frothy, calorie laden beverage.
or ate the very least a cup of tea.

God love and bless you, Angie! God love and bless you! If you haven't had the opportunity yet, please check out our sister Brenda's post, "Choosing Joy this Christmas" in the "Across the Fence" forum. If any farmgirl knows how to do it right - it's her!

You're so right - I think believers are attacked the hardest this time of year. I'm extremely guilty of high expectations! I want to have Holiness and a Fezziwig's Christmas and Currier and Ives memory-making. But you know, when I finally come to my senses and just look at all the blessings around me, I already have each of those in the way God wants me to have them... and they are WONDERFUL! I took it easy this year. I had planned on pulling out all the stops, a big Christmas party, decorations and food galore. But when all the recent sadness happened, my heart just wasn't into it at all, and it certainly didn't seem to be an appropriate thing to do when others are suffering so deeply. I'm so tired lately, and just want to cozy up with a fluffy blanket and hot cup of tea. The usual traditions and trappings of the Holiday truly did not appeal to me, and it was hard getting into the swing. It took forever to decorate and get into the spirit of the season. Everything I wanted or needed to do just felt like such an overwhelming task; a chore. I just didn't wanna - you know? But our precious God - we just gotta love Him. Instead of letting me fall into spiritual malaise, God guided me towards a more beautiful, gentle and meaningful Christmas experience - one more akin to the original one in Bethlehem, if you will - and oh boy, I cannot even begin to tell you how much I am relishing and treasuring every moment! He reminded me that He could be found in the simple beauty of music and candlelight... of the simple things, like Catechetical and Biblical reflections, music and worship, etc. The laundry can wait. The dust bunnies I've missed add a special glow in the candlelight (just as Erma Bombeck assured us they would - LOL!). It's okay to buy a special Buche de Noel, Christmas cookies and a Holiday Rum Cake from the bakery this year - I'm allowed to relax and enjoy, letting someone else provide the treats this year. My guys are fine with that! I don't need to pull out all the decorations and deck every corner of every hall - a beautiful Nativity scene, a few Christmas lights, some warm-glowing scented candles, and a humble yet magical Christmas tree will still honor His light, love and provision, and serve my family more than well. We are so blessed. I've really enjoyed watching PBS specials aboout Christmas celebrations around the world as well as Christmas and other holiday celebrations here in Pittsburgh. What a wonderful blessing to see how others in our area and all over the world ring in the season and the Birth of our Savior! It makes my heart glad and uplifts my spirits beyond belief to know that others are celebrating God with us! Let the Angels sing! Let Heaven rejoice! Let our hearts revel in Him! Peace on Earth - Goodwill toward men!!! I think it all just boils down to perspective. If we put Him first, and if He is truly the center of it all, all the pomp and circumstance and need for busy-ness kinds of fades. I still love all the holiday hoopla, but this year it's so much more "special," if you will - as if I'm enjoying the celebration with new old eyes. My heart is renewed and refreshed and so, so glad. THANKFUL! He has always been the center of our lives, but this year, celebrating Him means even that much more. How blessed we are to be His children and to be able to celebrate Him in the many facets in which He reveals Himself!

So, again - God love and bless you, Angie! "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." - Romans 15:13.

Hugs, blessings and Merry Christmas to you all, sisters!

Nini

Our family "blues" this year will simply be from missing the loss of our son's dog, Gus. It was be difficult to watch the other two dogs open their bones, and my son to not have his dog to watch and hold and love on. My "blues" are hurting for my son. I honestly think I inherited my grandmother's emotions. I break out in tears singing Amazing Grace.

I am praying that God helps me find a way to fence off our property from the road (and soon).

Have a Merry Christmas!

If there is one thing I learned from our trials and tribulations this season, it's learning that my own prayers are heard by God, just as much as everyone else's (when I felt I just couldn't do it during it all).

....I'm off to listen to some Joyce Meyer this morning.

Have a blessed day!

Hi girls, I haven't been here to "the farm" in a very long time. But I finally found my way "home".
I am also a Christian. My dear dad passed away on Christmas Eve and I was wondering if you
could suggest any Bible scriptures.

Take care, Melissa.

Thank you girls. I truly believe dad is in a better place. He's not suffering
anymore and he's been reunited with mom. I do pretty good til I hear a Marty
Robbins song, he was dads favorite singer. Thank you so much girls.

Take care, Melissa.

Our neighbor (kind of, as he just has his produce stand not far), came to pay respect to the loss of Gus (my son's dog). That was so nice of him.

We also received a nice sympathy card from my older brother and his wife.

My son is still taking it hard, and it's been rough not having him (Gus)around, so I keep trying to distract him (my son), but when we see photos, it starts all over.

I plan to get photos printed, so my son can have his own album regarding his dog. I just keep praying the Lord shows me when it's a good time to do it.
