Michele, not sure yet exactly what Kris has in mind but I know she's going to make some ahead of time so we can all sample!! I'm planning on a whole day of food and fun! I'll be heading over to Kris' tomorrow so I'll try to remember to ask her what her plan is!!

Here is the information for the cheese making day!
Saturday October 23, 9:00am - ? (when we're finished up having a fun day:)

Kris is planning on making 2 different kinds of cheese, Ricotta and Cheddar.

We'll have coffee/tea/cider/water and an assortment of muffins and breads for the am and a salad, cheese and crackers, fruits etc for lunch...I do believe we'll just be eating all day! You're welcome to bring something but it is not necessary.

Really looking forward to meeting all of you that are able to come! If anyone else is interested please let me know and I'll start forwarding my address to those of you already on the list. I'll also add my phone number just in case you have any questions regarding the day or directions.

Don't forget your apron!!!

ps...do you think we should post this anywhere else? There doesn't seem to be a lot of activity on our forum right now, I don't want to leave anyone out that may want to come.

Hi Peachy and MI Farmgirls:

Peachy, I'll be able to attend the cheesemaking class and look forward to meeting you, Kris, and other farmgirls in the area.

While I'm posting, I spin on a spinning wheel and wondered if there are any farmgirls in the SW MI area that do as well as it would be fun to put together a group spin now and then.

I'll be thinking aboucha on Saturday.
Wish I could be there but my son and daughter in law are in town for the weekend and I've missed them soooo much.
I hope it is wildly successful and you'll want to do it again and then I can come

Hi Margo,
If you live in our beautiful state, you're in the group! We're from all over the mitten and the U.P. I remember the ole' bank days & having to take my turn on a Saturday. Will admit that I don't miss it. Gotta love the folks who walk in 5 minutes before closing time and want to open an estate account...on Saturday.

Thank you Miss Kris for doing the Cheese Making Class and was so very nice meeting Janna, Candy and Jaime!!! We (I hope) had a great time and will be posting pictures on my blog soon!!! Will inform you all:) Looking forward to scrapbooking, spinning, soap making AND...Michigan Farmgirls, what do you think of our own "Michigan Traveling Apron?" We're thinking...I'll start it, probably very simple apron and everyone that signs up and it "travels to" will add something to it:)along with taking a picture and writing something about it's day with you in the journal. When it reaches "the end" probably back to me, everyone who has an outing etc. will get the apron to wear...along with its journal and ya have to take pics:)

Let me know what everyone thinks about this idea!!

Sorry about my blank posting as I'm a newbie at this. Anyways, I'm sending a HUGE THANK YOU to Miss Kris and Peachy for hosting our cheese making gathering. We had such a GREAT time learning, laughing, eating, sharing, .... I haven't laughed so much in one day. Peachy and Miss Kris made some great food and Peachy's home was decorated so lovely. And Kris brought her own goat milk to make the cheese which turned out great. I'm patiently waiting on the Cheddar as my husband pressed it one last time with a vice and two pieces of wood and now it has to age for 4 weeks. Kris, you were a good teacher, and had a lot of funny stories and experiences to share. It was amazing learning about all of the interesting things that each of us do and can share with others. We will definitely be getting together again.

Blessings

Melissa, there already is a traveling apron that MaryJane presented @ a luncheon on Grosse Ile back in the spring. I've been trying to get info on who's in charge and it's whereabouts. I started a thread last week asking for info but haven't gotten any replies yet. I'll ask it again on this thread....Who knows where the MI traveling apron is that MaryJane brought in the spring??? If somebody, anybody knows what's going on with this apron & can share, that would be great!
MaryJane suggested the same thing that you have by having every recipient of the apron write a journal page along with a pic of themselves wearing the apron.

Just want to echo the BIG thank you to Kris and Missy for the fun cheesemaking! It was fun to put faces with names! The cheese was soooo good, and my kids keep asking me when they get to try the cheddar. Four weeks is a long time to wait - it's now wrapped nice and snug and tucked into my nice, cool closet :) Thanks Kris for sharing your skill with us! And thank you Missy for hosting, you're home was beautiful - a farm girl paradise! Looking forward to future gatherings!

Thank you Candy and Janna for such very nice compliments! I had a great day and it was so nice putting names with faces! I've got a few pictures downloaded...I'm sorry its taking so long! Very slow computer and hectic schedule these days! I'll let you know when they're all on there!

Lyn, thank you for the info! I didn't know there was an apron just for Michigan, I thought it went all over:) We were thinking of a journal and picture as well as each of us adding our own special talents to the apron, whether it be sewing a button on to drawing to well just letting our imaginations go wild! Then at the end of its road, any MI Farmgirl having a "get-together" will get the apron to wear for that day. Well, just a thought we had...let me know:)

I think having an apron that we each can help desgn and decorate and then have to wear at Farm Girls of the Mitten get togethers would be fun.
It is true that there is an apron that Mary Jane left when she came to Grosse Isle for the luncheon that Tracy won...and that that apron is going around to any who want to add something special to it.That apron will go back to Mary Jane when it is done and she was excited to look forward to seeing what wonderful things she would find when she saw it again.
So again I think the idea of doing an apron that we can have for our get togethers would be kind of fun! Great idea!:D

Okay, lets do this...I'm working on an apron and we'll start it out for the Farm Girls of the Mitten to add on to, journal and take pictures of and then we'll circulate it to each of the "mitten" functions for someone to wear, journal and take pics:) When I finish it up I'll post and try to get a list of all the farm girls that would be interested in adding to our apron and of course we'll all continue to wait patiently for the MI apron from MaryJane to visit us as well:)

Wow, I would have loved to attend the cheese making day. Any plans for anything similar in the near future? I'm located in Warren, any groups located in the area?
