I am the proud mother of an 18 year old daughter. She is a senior in high school. She is very independent, never giving in to peer pressure. She works hard at school which isn't always easy for her. She helps around the house and will clean up or do things as she sees the need. She stands up for the little guy but is not a bully.
She had her first boyfriend recently but they broke up on Tuesday. She ended things because the boy was too controlling, telling her who she could talk to and also showed a bit of verbal abuse on an occassion or two. She did really like him though but she felt he wasn't good for her. So Tuesday night she ended it, after 3 months. She told him the truth that she did not like him telling her what to do and who to talk to, she told him that he was acting like his dad, who verbally abused his exwife. These were things he did not want to hear but needed to hear. He got very mad and said he never wants to talk to her again etc. Though she is hurt right now by his behavior, it will pass and she will get over it all.
What impressed me most is that at 18, in her first relationship, she has the strength to stand up and say I deserve better and I will not be with someone who treats me this way. WOW what a great head on her shoulders. I could not be prouder of her. I told her that she did exactly the right thing and sometimes that is hard and painful. What an amazing woman my daughter has become.

Good for her, good for you. It's something I always lacked as a teen...self confidence, and it sounds like she's growing up just fine!
Glad she told him--it probably won't sink in the first time, but in later relationships he may get it :)

Thanks Anne- she is a wonderful young woman. I feel so blessed everyday. She is so very excited that her favorite NASCAR driver- Dale Jr is coming to Cedar Lake Raceway in July- she hopes to meet him if she can. She is a NASCAR fanatic.
I will try and gets some pictures from prom on my blog- she looked stunning! So hard to see my baby girl so grown up. She is my oldest and only daughter.

That is wonderful!!! I am so happy for you and for her because with her mind clear and her head on straight, she will go through life with far less grief and mistakes, thus less regrets! What a wonderful thing!!

Beth, It's so good that she's strong enough to have the courage to stnad up for herself in a relationship like that.. most other girls would have put up with it i'm afraid..
Some just tend to let things like that go..
& just accept things the way they are..
Rather then realize that they do deserve so much better.. & move on.. Even if it means being with out a boyfriend.. which does mean alot in when your in School..
Says SO much about her Mama!!

isn't it great to see who they become? Sad also sometimes because I still miss the :little girl" thing but I also am so proud. Britta, my 16 year old just made the honor roll again & her journalism teacher just sent in an article she wrote to the local newspaper. I am very proud of it all but most proud of her heart & the person she is blossoming into.

I am so glad that your daughter is so strong and willing to stand up for herself. I have known quite a few wonderful women that were not that strong. It just breaks my heart when I know or hear about a woman letting herself be in a bad situation. I am so glad for her that she has learned that it is okay to break off an unhealthy relationship! You did an awesome job raising her and giving her strong self-worth values!
