These linens were given to me this weekend by my husband's aunt. They were made by her grandmother, my husband's great grandmother who was known as granny. I have numerous photos so will post them here I also need some advice which I will ask with the photos that I need the answers for. These photos are of all the intact pieces she made.
If anyone has suggestions on how to care for them or remove stains please let me know

The blue one is long and narrow. The others are large. One of the pink ones needs to be fixed in a very small spot along the edge of the case.

Dresser scarves. One has some stains so I will have to find someone knowledgeable on how to remove without damaging the material.

All the rest of these are intact but need washing.

In this photo there is what looks like a doll hat but it is very dirty.

The apron in the above photo was worn by her on special occasions I'm sure. She was a very thin woman.

In this photo there are collars she made and at the bottom a vest that I know she wore as I have seen it on her in photos

You can see the many stains on this one. Hoping to get help in restoring it.

I think this last one might be something like those toilet paper covers. Not sure

Denise, what a beautiful group of heirloom linens you received from your husband's aunt. To think how long it took to make them is mind boggling to me.

Beautiful linens, Denise. There are several different vintage linen cleaners on the market. I think I may have one; I will see what it is called. They have been talking about these on one of the FB Quilting sites.

There are several good methods for getting stains out of old needlework. One way may be to soak the piece in lemon juice and dry it in the sun. Another way is to spray them with a good quality prewash spray. I can recommend Bio Green Clear either diluted or at full strength. Machine wash a few at a time after pretreating by placing them in a mesh bag so that they don't get tangled with anything else. Dry in the sun and don't iron until satisfied that the stains are minimal. If a stain just will not come out, find a dye that will hide the color of the stain.

Thank you for the tips Marie! I will give that a try. I'd really like to restore them for use. I feel so blessed they were given to me. Each of the great grandchildren received a frame piece that holds different samples of her work. I was amazed to hear the way she acquired some of the patterns. She would go down to the store and look at the pieces they would have in the window and would go home and work on a piece with what she remembered and would go back and study them more until she had a finished piece. I don't know if she ever wrote anything down. It would be wonderful to find some handwritten patterns among these things I received. I have another bag of books and things I haven't gone through yet. I will post if I find anything! These are such wonderful treasures to me.

I had time to go through the booklets and things. I think every pattern for the linens I have are in there. When I found a booklet from 1933 I was really surprised, but then I came across one from 1917!
Great granny was born in 1899 and passed in 1984. Many of the books are from the 40s 50s and 60s. A few workbaskets but lots of them for crochet that were 10 cents a piece. Lots of small newspaper clippings she looked at to copy the patterns from. I'm surprised they have survived all these years.

If I found an item I liked that was crocheted, I would take/send it to my mother and she would copy it for me. LOL! She was the best at that.

I have a precious book of crochet and knit patterns from 1910. It includes patterns for making warm clothing for soldiers participating in World War I.

That's so amazing Denise - not just the homemade pieces but the patterns too!!!! What a treasure! I don't have any advice for cleaning/repairing but I do have an idea. I have a few pieces from my grandma that have holes and stains and I thought it would be neat to use them on an apron or a purse. They could be sewn on in a way that the hole is hidden (like placed in a seam or on the edge of a pocket) or even add something like buttons or ribbon over where the hole is. I haven't gotten around to it yet so I hope you can "see" my idea like I can "see" it LOL! Another idea would be to put them in a frame with a picture of her (or family) over the hole.

Great ideas Heather! My aunt used to crochet up a storm. She made everything -- doileys, toilet paper covers, antimacassars, fabulous doll skirts. Mom didn't really like that kind of thing so I don't know what happened to it all. I have a few beloved pieces that DH's mom made including something I had never seen before -- a crocheted telephone book cover.

That is unusual. I never heard of a telephone book cover. I know at my grandmother's on the maternal side the phone books were an unusual size.

We used to have two sizes of phone books; the neighboring community had smaller ones. Now we don't have any; telephone books are going the way of dial telephones.
