Down here in the southern tier of the United States, it has been one oppressive hot, hot and humid summer so far! I got to wondering are any other Farmgirls quietly thinking about Fall with its cooler weather, pumpkins, colored leaves, flannel shirts, and shorter days???? This Farmgirl down here in the swamp of Florida thinks about it all the time!! LOL!!!

So, I am hosting an Early Fall Giveaway to cheer us up. What do you think?

If you would like your name to go into the basket, please leave us a note about your thoughts on fall, whether you are looking forward to it and maybe what you like best. I can't wait to read what other Farmgirls think about this topic. I am hoping that it ins't this heat that is making me crazy!! LOL!! That is always a possibility !

Good Morning Fall lovers! Since so many of you participated with heart felt responses to your love and enjoyment of Fall, I chose 2 winners!! My apple basket had all the names and Sara knight and Vanessa Ferrell were chosen! Congratulations and your surprise is going out today! I hope you enjoy!!

I will select a winner on Wednesday July 24.

I would post a photo here but the Chatroom doesn't like my photo transfer from my computer anymore. UGH"!! So, use your imagination for a favorite fall photo or maybe post one when you leave a comment if you can for us all to enjoy!

As much as I enjoy fall and all the beautiful colors and smells, we are still enjoying our beautiful cool summer and hope it last a couple more months, then I will be ready for fall.
Thank you Winnie for the early fall giveaway.

Oh Winnie you know fall is my FAVORITE time of the year. Today is one of our hottest days yet. It's making me dream of fun fall days. Raking leaves, bonfires, my favorite sweaters. I love the wonderful smells and that tang in the air, going to find pumpkins and sipping apple cider. I can't find one thing I don't like about fall. If the heat is making you crazy then I'm right there with you! I love picking our apples and when the house smells of applesauce and apple butter on the stove!
Please add my name to the giveaway fun!

Winnie, you know me and how I feel about the cool crisp breezes of fall. I have already started decorating for fall in my kitchen. Fall colors and decor on my kitchen table. Next I will slowly bring fall decor to my entire kitchen, front & side porches. A little decorating here and a little there till everything is done by Sept 1.

Please put my name in the basket and thanks for hosting another fun giveaway.

Pumpkins, leaves, pumpkins, leaves!! :) I love fall so very much! It can be pumpkin spice season…but note in lattes! But muffins, cakes, doughnuts, all the things I shouldn’t eat but LOVE so much! The cooler, crisp air, flannels, jeans and boots!! :) Mums, pumpkins, corn stalks, straw bales galore! I love to decorate outside with all those fun things! Aside from all that one of the best things about fall is the return of football!! :)

Right now I am thankful we have cooled into the 90s for a week. I am so looking forward to Fall! Cooler weather especially and I love that special morning when I open the door and get that smell, undescribable, but I know instantly that seasons are changing and Fall is on the way. Sycamore leaves turning lovely colors of yellow and red. Nights when I can sleep with the window open. It doesn't usually happen here until the second week of October. I will be patient and wait.

Oh Winnie, We are right there with you!!The heat and humidity has been a scorcher this year. Just walking outside my face and arms feel like they are burning. I mowed 3 1/2 hours yesterday afternoon with long sleeves and a hat. By the time I was done I had a bad rash on my legs, my eyes were weepy and I was gulping down electrolytes. Its been a bad one this year huh? Today temps were high 90's but feels like 107. If it FEELS like it then why isn't it 107? Lol

Ok, YAY FALL! My most favorite season! Why? Because it brings a sweet relief from sizzling summers so that we can STILL get outside and enjoy the last days of our flower gardens, the colorful transformation of trees and bushes, the yummy fall squashes and spices and we can wear our shoes again! Even tho we don't normally get cold weather until later November or early December its nice to wear a long sleeve t and jeans. I miss our northwest falls like my son has in Washington but we just head north a couple hours and experience a very mini fall in the Alabama hills! I can't think of anything I dislike about fall. We still have bees and hummers until after Nov.
Love your idea of celebrating fall instead if Christmas in July! Hugs!!( sweaty albeit) ( my happy fall painting)

Ahh,, Autumn,,

the sound of crisp brown leaves being tossed in the air by giggling children,
the scent and sound of wood crackling in a warming fire pit,
the flavor of spiced warmed apple cider held in a pair of mittened hands,
the calming and relaxing on the deck in a warm cozy sweater watching the sun set...

How can you not love Autumn..

I do love Fall, but I am not ready for it yet. I am enjoying the warm weather and being outside in my flip flops. I do agree with so many before me about the smells and taste though! Pumpkin spice should just be a year round thing. Once the cooler weather starts to hit then I really jump all on board for Fall.

My favorite season is fall, but even as hot as it’s been, I’m not finished with summer just yet. The best part of fall to me is being able to open the windows and let that fresh air inside. It is so nice to hear all of the nature sounds instead of the hum of the AC. Also the crunch of leaves when taking a walk in the woods, and the smell of a campfire!

A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.

Winnie,
I think Fall is so beautiful with the changes in the colors of the leaves and different colors because of the difference in the trees. In my area it is a beautiful time of year because it is more like summertime here. A normal summertime here is usually grey or foggy.
I live in an area where it’s mostly redwoods so the trees that do change makes a beautiful color contrast.
I do love it when the pumpkins come out in the fall and the color contrasts are so beautiful.
I love every season here though.

Trust in your faith, not your emotions, when it comes to making life’s decisions.
I have learned that to have a good friend is the purest of all God's gifts, for it is a love that has no exchange of payment.

You are all filling my heart and head with all those special things that only happen in the Fall !! I do know that some of you , who have had longer cooler winters, are enjoying the summer season with all that it has to offer. It is great fun hearing what each of you think and look forward too. We shall see if others decide to join our summer change of mood by dreaming more about Fall. From where I sit, every favorite gift that fall brings to each of you, I can honestly say I enjoy the same things.

Sara, over there in Texas, you go Gurl starting already to get your fall things out a little at a time with the goal of being finished by September 1ST! Somehow, it feels hopeful that the long hot and humid days we get down here are numbered! With a heat index of about 100+ everyday, I need some good ole hope! And yes, Dianna, over there in southern Alabama just beyond the Florida panhandle, it sure is getting too hot to spend 3 hours mowing these days!! Why does that grass grow so fast down here??

Everyone have a great week!

I've always liked fall, and prefer to call it Autumn. When I was young, it was the season of new shoes for school, the smell of chalkboards and dry leaves when we were at recess. It was the independence of going trick or treating at night with my sister. A season, as J.R.R. Tolkien wrote, "of morning mist and silver sun, and wind upon my hair."

I like fall, but the garden is just now starting to produce well (still haven't had any ripe tomatoes!) so I'm not ready for it yet. As silly as it may sound one of my favorite things about fall is trading my flip flops for my boots. I also love the feeling of accomplishment that comes with fall - the pantry is stocked with canned goods from the garden, the freezer is full of meat and fruit, the barn is full of hay, etc. It's just about time to slow down for winter but not too cold to want to stay inside all day.

It's cooler this week in Iowa and evenings in the 50s so reminds me of fall. Getting out fall decorations to see what I have and need. However we still have rest of July and August to enjoy so don't want to rush it.

My fall giveaway gift arrived Saturday, thanks Winnie. The wood leaf with welcome autumn hangs on the latch to my aunt's china cabinet and the wee pumpkin sits on a shelf inside. The pumpkin potholder hangs on a kitchen cabinet. Thanks Winnie, I am enjoying all my gifts and they are helping me to decorate my kitchen for fall. Always good to have something new to add to my stash of decorations.
