Hey girls, my neice is getting married and I've been asked to help with this lingerie shower for her. I'm not the one who planned it, but I'm supposed to be finding some games to play and any cutsie decorating, food ideas. But first, let me tell ya'll bout Miss Ciarra. She turned 18 last August, she's in college as an Art Major, she's very Christian, and hence she's still a virgin, so this can't be anything dirty at all. Her grandma is planning this thing, and although it should just be a bridal shower, well...that's besides the point..grandma is more on the wildside than the 18 yr old!!!
I just wanted to know if you girls know of any neat ideas for a young lady who's about to get married. Games, food, decor...anything will help!!!
Thanks, Cristine |

I have one small idea that I used at a baby shower I had given. I bought thank you cards, when the guests arrived they all signed out the envelope to themselves, once all the envelopes were gathered up they were used to draw names out to win a gift. At the end of the shower I had stamped the envelopes with the names already on them, tied them with a pretty ribbon and then gave them to the guest of honor...all she had to do was personalize the card, but the rest was all done! She loved it. It eliminated having to do so many games...but we did games too. Hope this helps some. Jamie

One of the cute things I got when I got married was a beautiful nightgown and on the front was pinned a note that said "for the nights you feel like loving" The second box was a burlap nightgown with a rope belt and pinned to it said "the nights you don't. It was fun and everyone had a good laugh.

Games....They played one at my shower about how much everyone knew about the bride to be...questions that relate to both Ciarra and her beau--what's her favorite color? favorite food, what is their favorite movie together? Stuff like that. Folks answer and then count up how many they have right. That was pretty fun to see what people said.
As far as decorations, how bout just some really pretty tulle...you can buy it by the yard, and add pretty little bottles of lotions, soaps, back massagers, etc...(personal items, right?) attached to each gather, along with some faux flowers. Then she can take those home in a basket after the shower. Since she's as you said, you'd want it to reflect her, and she sounds lovely and respectable.
I went to a shower for a friend who is a poet and is working on her Phd in womens studies, so you may well imagine she's not into "girly" or really objectifying garments, so I found some really nice microfiber (?) separates at Kohl's--I think they were made by Barely There, but they were really sweet and simple. A black spaghetti strap tank with a pink rosette, and some boy shorts in the same material with pink edging. It was tasteful but fun.
Just don't let the grandma say when she opens her "nighties", "Now that's my first grandchild!!" "that's my second!" My best friend got married at 17 and her mother in law to be was absolutely mortifying! We were pretty grossed out by the end

Cristine, I have a sweet young friend who sounds very much like your Ciarra. :) One of the gifts she received was a pair of "Peek-a-boo- panties"... in reality a HUGE pair of "granny panties" with those googly eyes glued all over them. They received quite a laugh.
At another bridal shower a "guest" showed up that no one seemed to know-even the bride, who was seated next to me! During introductions the woman nervously stood up and announced that she was embarrassed to realize she was at the wrong bridal shower. At that time her purse spilled open all over the floor with items rolling everywhere! She quickly gathered up the "questionable" contents of her purse and ran from the room. Everyone sat there shocked, feeling terrible for her...until the hostess came in with paper & pen, telling us to write down as many items as we could recall from her spilled purse. :) The only thing I remember from her bag were lemons(?) and a pair of handcuffs (fuuny, but not too racey). You can think up your own goodies to include toning it down as needed. It was very cute and something new to me.

Interview the Fiance and ask questions about the bride like what is his favorite thing about her, his favorite date, what he looks forward to most in the future etc. Then at the shower have her answer the questions like she thinks he would have answered them and compare the answers.
A fun art game
Buy really cheap white underwear, puff paints, permenent markers, sequence, and hot glue guns. Break up into pairs or small groups to "decorate" a pair of underwear. Hang the finished products on a clothes line and have the bride choose her favorite. The winners get a prize.

My friend that just got married sounds a lot like your friend. Her bridal shower theme was "chocolate and love". Lots of people brought chocolately desserts. At one of my sister's bridal showers they had a paper cut out of a guy and you were supposed to go up and write on the body part that what your favorite and why. So you could write on his hands something like "his strength to support and care for me" or his eyes "His ability to see beauty in me even on my worst hair days!" When you tell the rules, everyone giggles because they always assume everyone is going to write you-know-where but it can turn into a really fun game that can also give the new bride some encouragement when she feels a bit nervous or stressed out.

At a bridal shower I went to everyone got like 10 jelly beans in a small cup and they had to announce to everyone something they have done or have that they think no one has done or has. Those that have not then they must give up one jelly bean to that person, for example "I have gone sky diving." I get 1 jelly bean from all those that have never gone. Or if someone says I have had 8 children then those that have less than 8 give up one jelly bean. And we went around in a circle, the one with the most jelly beans in their cup at the end of the game wins a prize.

At the last bridal shower I went to we played gift "bingo" where everyone filled out a sheet with the bingo grid on it, instead of saying "bingo" on top it said "bride", with what we thought the bride would receive as gifts and then as she opened them we'd cross off anything that was on our board that matched what she opened, when you filled in a bingo you called out bingo. At the shower before that we did a cross word puzzle about the bride and groom, clues about where they went to college, their majors, where they were getting married, the wedding colors, etc. as well as a word find about the bride and groom.
At the shower I'm throwing next month we're doing something similar to what Rhonda said about the purse and remembering what fell out but we're pinning a bunch of things (a spatula, kitchen towel, slotted spoon, hand spade, etc) to an apron and the bride to be will come out wearing it and then leave and we'll have people write down what they remember--the prize is a homemade apron. Another game we're doing is with fresh herbs, putting them in empty tea bags that people will smell and try to guess which herb it is.
We're decorating with a garden theme, flowers in pots and hand garden tools. The table decorations will be door prizes with a drawing as Jamie did with the envelopes for thank you notes.

My mom, sister and niece went to a shower yesterday for my future sister-in-law, I had to work, and they did a neat thing where everyone wrote down advice for the bride on making a marriage work. My mom told her that she could use the Farm Trader magazine as leverage, I can't remember what my sister put and my niece, mind you she's 10, gave her a line from one of her favorite tv shows, paraphrasing-At your reception, only have two glasses of champagine and drink water the rest of the night because there's nothing tackier than a drunken bride. That got a good laugh from everyone.
