I recently took 3 different classes through our local art studio to learn how to make stained glass. The picture posted below is a short snapshot of how it is made. Glass usually comes in either 2 or 3mm thicknesses. After deciding on a pattern, you will cut the pattern out and trace or tack the pieces onto your glass. There is a special glass cutter that drips a small amount of oil as you are making your cut. Cuts have to be in straight lines. Another tool will help snap the excess glass off if it is a large straight cut. I found that wavy glass is not easy to cut! After your pieces are cut, you will use a wet grinder to smooth the edges of all pieces. You will then wrap each piece with foil wrap. Each edge will need to be painted with flux to allow the soldering to stick. Pieces are placed on a special mat and then tacked together. Once that is finished, you will solder all edges together. The foil will be covered with the soldering.
