Does anyone mind if I do the same style block as we did in swap one, only make it larger and use only red, white & blue? I still feel "quilt challenged", and that was such a simple block to make--no worries about being exact and all. Or, does anyone have suggestions for easy blocks? I'm getting ready to start, and I'm going through the stash to see what colors I have. I got a "raggy strip" quilt in red, white & blue, only it was really dark reds/burgandys, creams/tans, and dark blues a couple of years ago, and I love it! I'll try to post a picture later on my blog. I'm excited to get started!

I like the block from the first exchange. Feel free to use that one. It is so muc hfun to work with that style-slash and sew or something like that.

I sat down this evening after church and finished up my blocks!! I sat down to even them up to 8 1/2", and when I layed the first one down, it only measured 8". What??! Ok, so all of them measure 8" I guess when I cut them I didn't take one of the seams into consideration . UGH! Oh well, looks like I'll be going off to Joanne's tomorrow cause this pretty well cleaned out my stash of red, white & blue.
Kathy Once again reaffirming why I primarily spin & knit instead of sew ..... :(

Can you just add 1" strips to each side and then square up to the size needed?

Nah, my mother in law quilts quite a bit, so I'll probably just give them to her. If I know her, she'll have them made into a quilt before I even get the other blocks done!!
Not a problem--I was just bummed out last night.

I know what you mean. You spend all that time making them only to find out they are just a small part off in size.
I am just about ready to start mine. The busy holiday weekend is over. this week looks good for it. yeah!!

I have lots going on at home and am feeling a little overwhelmed. I made one sample and hope that everyone likes it. They are going to be real simple. This weekend my husband and I are taking our annual trip to PA for a Triumph rally. Normally we would pitch a tent and camp out but this year because of health issus we are roughing it at a hotel. I hope to have my blocks done and mailed by June 18th Kathy H

Remember my problem, that I made all the blocks too small (forgot one seam allowance when I measured & cut the fabric--DUH!!)?? Well, I had to go out and buy more fabric, and guess what? I scored a Memorial Day Sale on red, white & blue fabric, so I got a bunch for only $2.00 per yard! YAY!!
I put away the sewing machine while my husband's home, but when he leaves again on Wednesday, I'll be working on the blocks again! Kathy

Hey Kathy NJ & Kathy IN, Never fear, & don't let yourselves get over whelmed. Your squares will be wonderful. It's not a matter of perfection or the perfect sq.,but rather sharing....I am a very very very beginner quilter, but I so enjoy the challenges, especially when one of my 4 kitties decides to help me... I so delight in the sq.'s that I receive from you all & am proud to assemble them into a work of Friendship Art.

Are most of you using white or muslin to do the background? I have both and will go with what the majority are using. I am hoping to make them within a week or so. You are all WAY ahead of me. I have like ten projects going that have to be finished before the next classes. Plus with being obsessed with tea towels and aprons, I am going nonstop. Fun times! |

It had specified that we should use red and blue and either cream or white. I was wondering if most of us are leaning towards white or cream. I didn't mean background like as in an appliqued piece! Sorry! LOL I just wondered if we were more white or cream. I am doing embroidered blocks and don't want to use a more muslin color if most of us are using white in the blocks since mine will stick out more than a pieced block. |
