Growing up in Dallas in the 1940s I heard talk about the day Pearl Harbour was bombed. I started school in 1948 and throughout my school years Pearl Harbour was taught in all history classes. To this day on Dec 7th, I remember Pearl Harbour and the beginning of America's fight in WWII.

There are other days I remember and where I was when I heard, the day Kennedy was shot, first landing on the moon, and the most resent 9/ll.

Pearl Harbor was before I was born, but it was my parents' wedding anniversary day. They were married in 1933 and had their three oldest children then. My dad was didn't go to war because he was a railroad worker and they were vital to the war effort.

Pearl Harbour happened Dec 7, 1941, and I was born Mar 1, 1942. I don't remember how old I was when I first remember hearing about it, but I do know it was before I started to school. It has always been in my memories.

I remember Pearl Haror day every year. I am not sure when I first learned of it in school.

This National Pearl Harbor Day, we remember the 2,403 lives lost and how Americans united through patriotism and conviction to defend our nation.

Sadly, not much has been said about PHD around here on the local News......
But, I was talking with Hubby yesterday, about wondering if anyone would remember...
82 years ago, so many lives were changed, lost... Once again our Nation was shaken to it's core..
May we never have another Pearl Harbour Day...

I have been to the Pearl Harbor Memorial 2 times now. It's so very important to remember all those lives that were lost and to continue to remember our history. Our history is so very important and it's sad to see so many youth forgetting or never being told. I agree with Grace, I didn't hear anything about Pearl Harbor this year.

As Franklin D. Roosevelt said in his Fireside chat to the nation on December 9, " December 7, 1941, a date that will live in infamy, the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan."
I agree with you Krista and Grace, that it is very important to teach generations the history of our nation. For both WWI and WWII, many American lives were lost and the world turned upside down from such brutal and violent warfare. The newly developed guns, planes, and ammunition were unlike anything any previous war had. The results were deadly and often debilitating for the rest of someone's life. It is also important that these wars did not just happen out of the blue. The world had changed by the 20th Century and aggression and discontent between nations surged forward and festered. And here we are today still unable to find peace among our differences and result to guns and violence to solve the problem. My question is why can't we ever learn that we cannot keep waring against each other. We must learn to find common ground and make peace that can last.

Oh Winnie.. I so agree.. Sadly, all through History,, one Nation has felt the erg to take control of another, whether it was for Religious or political reasons..
You would think the World would have learned by now.. Goodness builds a Nation, Greed and Hatred destroys it.
