I did a little bit of ironing this morning… and as I was ironing my linens, I pondered over dinner.
We had friends over for dinner, I made a good old fashioned German meal… Rouladen, Spätzle, potato salad and beets… and a lovely Malbec wine from Argentina.

I decided to go full out fancy, Silverware, my mother’s Wedgewood china, Crystal wine glasses and yes, linen table cloth and linen napkins…

There is something special about about ironing… as I ironed the linen napkins I thought about our myriad of different topics we talked about., the laughter and the hugs and insisting they take home a bowl of Tomatoes from my crazy tomato plant..

I need to iron more often, to reminisce happy moments.

Sounds like a wonderful meal! Isn't it funny how "chores" can cause us to slow down and appreciate all our blessings if we remember to look at it that way? Whenever I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with housework I remind myself to be thankful that I have clothes to wash, food to dirty dishes, and a wonderful man to sweep up after LOL!

Grace, I am intrigued by that iron you were using! I have never seen one like it before and it looks perfect for ironing small items like linens. Your dinner sounded delicious and truly a German delight! I am sure your friends enjoyed it.

Heather, I need to take on your thoughts on how chores equate blessings. I have never put those two together!! LOL!!!

Winnie,,
it's an old Sunbeam, probably from the 1960-70's.. It has the old fabric covered cord and the old small style plug.
I found it at a Thrift about 10+ years ago and just love it.. small enough for quick touch ups , small sewing projects and Hankies.
Also luv my wool felt ironing pad...

Heather and Grace, I share the same sentiments and I try to get my boys to think that way too, when they are complaining about chores or what ever. There is always something to be grateful for. XO

Grace, those are such wonderful memories to have. I find myself doing the same sometimes. Other times I am just repeating my mental list over and over lol!

Heather, that is so very true. I need to make sure I think like that more often. In my crazy chaos I tend to get overwhelmed and forget that one day I won't have kids to clean up after or a minimum of 6 plates to wash after just dinner! There really are many blessings that we tend to overlook.

I love ironing. It is one of those chores where I can solve the world's problems and still make something all rumbled look crisp and beautiful again. Another chore I love, for the same reason, is polishing silver.

Your dinner sounds wonderful! And your friends will feel special with ironed napkins! I love that iron! I really don't mind ironing, under the ceiling fan in the Summer!

Growing up in the late fifties, my mom would iron most everything. I remember watching her iron the bed sheets when I was a little girl.Sometimes, I reminisce about her and all of the joy and wonder I had with my mom.

Ruth, I remember my mom setting up the ironing board during the 'Soap Opera hours... she would watch and iron everything from sheets to dad's handkerchiefs and everything in between..

I remember having to iron a lot of things as a kid. My mom got a mangle iron to use for jeans and other things. I never used it . . . it was kind of scary!

CeeJay,, is the 'mangle' iron the one with the 'bed' and you lay the garment flat on it and then close down the top half to press?

@katmom Grace,
I wish we lived closer also, for more reasons than just polishing your silver, which I would happily do. I'd love to live close to another farmgirl sister!

There use to be about 8 of us with in a 20min drive,,, I am the last one here,, everyone moved out of the County and some, even out of the State..
But it was fun while it lasted...
Actually, I take that back, 1 of the gals lives just down the road,, but she is no longer involved with the MJF forum, life takes a different direction.. for some...
