We got hit with a terrible quarter sized hail storm yesterday. We very rarely get hail storms and when we do they are very tiny, like pencil erasers.

My garden is ruined from it. I feel defeated. It put holes through many of the leaves. It flattened out my large leaved plants like the zucchini and pumpkin. It even knocked tomatoes and peppers off the vines. I'm not sure how my garden can recover from this.

Has this happened to anyone? Did your garden survive?

I lost my garden this year too Krista but not to hail. I'm so sorry! Maybe if you plant the veggie plants/starters you still have some time??

Oh Krista, I am so sorry to hear about this destructive storm!! I hope there will be a few things you can salvage. It is frustrating and disappointing to see everything ruined in a matter of minutes.

That is terrible. Hang in there and things may come back to some extent. Mother Nature can be tough.

Oh no Krista after all your work planting. Who knows some plants are pretty resilient maybe will a little TLC they can come back before seasons end. I hope so.

I am still holding on to some hope that the plants will pull out of it. I picked a couple cucumbers yesterday that had holes in them from the hail. It's so crazy the damage it can do and how quickly. My carrots and onions are still in good shape and all but 3 of my pepper plants look better. Hopefully the other 3 pull through. My zucchini is still questionable and my pumpkin is hanging on for dear life. The sunflowers seem to be okay with holes in their leaves so that's a plus. I will keep up my TLC and see if I can get anything else to pull through.

So glad it wasn’t a total loss Krista. I have never experienced hail stones that large!

Just like with us and our faith, if the roots are deep and strong, the plant survives. Hang on!

Thank you Sharon and Wanda. I think it's still a little too soon to know for sure if anything will bounce back fully, but everything is still producing. So I will take that as a win.

Thanks Nancy and Heather. I am pretty sure the pumpkin plant is a loss. I am just hoping that the pumpkin will somehow magically last until October. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

April, most of them did survive the storm, but just last month we ended up with a pretty bad invasion of army worms that took out a good chunk of my garden. I lost all my green beans, pumpkins, and about 3/4 of my bell peppers to them. They also did a lot of damage to my rhubarb plant. My onions, cucumbers and carrots survived. I also had a cherry tomato plant that survived as well but it's next to the house rather than in the garden. This was a rough year for my garden.
