Does the bear bother your garden? I've heard that huckleberries cost so much because you have to fight the bear for them LOL! There are no huckleberries or bear around me so I wouldn't know but it makes me wonder what other fruits and veggies they would like.

Tara, your food looks amazing. We are growing corn this year. It had a tiny bit of a rough start but it's doing better now. I can't wait until we can eat our first corn!

Love the pics! It will be a while before corn or tomatoes show up in Northern Michigan. We grow tomatoes but let the bigger farmers grow the corn & then buy from our Farmers Mkt.

When asked “How are you?”, I reply, “Better than good!”

I just canned beets and a couple jars of pickles. I've picked a couple zucchini. There are some tomatoes starting but nothing ready yet. It's been a weird year here this year.

I miss making pickles. My crocks are still out in the garage. I used to be the family picklemaker; sweet, dill, bread and butter. Dilly beans, pickled beets and corn relish, pickled eggs. Unfortunately the family has shrunk and mostly moved out of state, and some have become toothless. All the pickling I do now is pickled beets and eggs. Over the weekend i did cook up four kinds of beans, black, kidney, garbanzo, and Peruvian, and now have twelve pints of beans in the freezer for the hot days ahead when we want beans but don't want to heat up the kitchen.

Can anyone share a tomato pesto recipe? I've harvested a LOT of basil today.
I told my husband last Dec I needed 20 basil plants in garden. He said that's too much. But now that basil is plentiful he is enjoying it with slices of tomatoes.
I use fresh basil for various recipes, but also dehydrate and freeze whole leaves. What ways are you preserving herbs?

Tara, I like to take a slice of crusty Italian bread, drizzle with EVOO, add sliced tomatoes and top with basil pesto. Bake in 400-degree oven until bread is toasty.

I haven't done it yet but on one of the TV cooking shows I watch the chef made a sauce of sauteed fresh tomatoes and pesto to put over pasta. It looked really good and I hope to make it when my tomatoes make.

Sara, my Italian friend used to cook angel hair pasta, and top with raw sliced tomatoes, a few cloves of garlic, fresh basil, EVOO, and a few anchovies. I loved it!
I do like anchovies though, probably because that was the only way my dad ordered pizza when I was a kid, so I was forced to develop a taste for them. LOL. It would still be good without them though. I just remember I was surprised how good it was without even cooking the tomatoes.
Your idea sounds delish too; I have quite a bit of basil and garlic, so pesto may be in order.

I wasn't going to harvest and look at the bounty. Slicing tomatoes are taking long time to ripen

Beautiful tomatoes. I love the taste of real tomatoes straight from the garden.

Tara, it has been hot & dry here but things are looking up. Beryl will make landfall in Texas as a hurricane 1. Paris is a little over 350 miles north of the gulf and in the hurricane's track as it moves northeast. Hope you get rain soon and relief from the heat.

I have a couple cherry tomatoes ready, but none of my slicing tomatoes are ready. I put in 8 plants, so I am really hoping for a bunch this year.
