Have you seen the new merit badge for 2023? It is called the Lost Art of Letter Writing. I am super excited for this badge! It's going to be so nice breaking away from technology for a moment and writing letters and cards to other people. I was also thinking this could be a good spot for others looking for a pen pal to complete this badge. A pen pal is needed for the expert badge, so I know I will be looking for one soon.

Ohhhh, awesome! I have a pen pal from here in the states, this forum actually and one overseas! I've loved letter writing for such a long time now! This may just be the beginning of the firsts of my badges! Thanks Krista!! :)

I am so excited about this one too! I have already started putting together my happy mail supply box and I've started reading a book I've had on my shelf Snail Mail by Michelle Mackintosh.
I just listed a swap for happy mail supplies inspired by our new merit badge opportunity. I am so looking forward to writing letters again.

This one is definately getting me excited to start my merit badges again. Laura, your book share interested me, so I looked for it online, wow, this is an expensive book via Amazon, etc... I did find a gently used copy on Ebay for under $18.00, excited to read. Thank you for sharing!

Oh April!!! That still sounds expensive but worth it! Its a beautiful book! I'd been wanting to use mine for ephemera and a junk journal I've been working on but now I must reread it before tearing it up, lol. I'm not really going to tear it up, just scan the pages. ;) you can borrow mine if you want or check your library before you spend??

I ordered some of the other books for the recommended ones. I don’t have any yet though. I’m happy to lend them out when I get them. I used to have the snail mail book…hmmmm…wonder what happened to it! Lol

I am very excited to work on this merit badge. I have already started to make a stationary box, I have been reading or listening to the book If you find this letter by Hannah Brencher. I love this book Y'all need to read it. I am not much of a letter writer but I make cards and write a little something on the card. I have already signed up for 2 swaps. I am so happy that this is a new merit badge. I get to make things and give them away this is one of my most favorite thing to do.

Thanks for the recommendation - I just found If You Find This Letter on audible and I can't wait to listen to it. And I had no idea that Snail Mail had gotten so expensive. It's been on my shelf for a while. It is such a pretty book with lots of great art.

I'm excited about this merit badge also. I signed up for Laura's swap which is going to be so much fun!
I would love to have a pen pal. Any farmgirl will do, I'm not picky. Also, very interested to correspond with a parent or guardian of autism/special needs child or adult.

I ordered 2 of the books to read and add to my lending library: A simple act of gratitude and The art of writing the personal letter. The 2 books just arrived in time because a fellow MJF sister is visiting an a couple days and we will make our letter stations together. Looking forward to getting started this week.

I signed up for Laura's swap also! My first swap in over a year and I am extremely excited about it.

It's been a little bit of a surprise to me too. I still have about 2 hours to listen to finish it up. I will be interested to see how it turns out. More thoughts to come.....

I have been trying to decide which book to read and was going to pick "If You Find This Letter". Do you 3 suggest I pick something different? LOL I'm not so sure now if you all feel it's different than expected.

I think it's an easy read - just not as focused on letter writing as I expected. It could surprise me in the end though.
