Last year for Christmas I made 25 goodie bags for women and 25 goodie bags for children and took them to the crisis center in town. This year I'd like to do some for the crisis center again, and also some for the nursing home in town. There are 2 reasons for this post. #1 - I need some ideas. I'm thinking maybe quilted coasters and crocheted fingerless mittens. I need something small and fast to get a bunch made - any other ideas? #2 - I'm having a colorstreet party to earn discounted (and if I get enough sales some free) nail sets to also put in the baggies. I know things are crazy in the world and if you can't purchase any that's completely fine (I've been there plenty of times and 100% understand). If you are able and are interested in helping here's the link to the party: https://www.colorstreet.com/GlendaMetz/nailbar/3647505
If you have any questions let me know. Thanks so much for your ideas and help!

Heather,,, do you need some yarn for your crochet fingerless gloves?
I wish I could crochet (all I can do is simple single stitch dish rags and dish towel toppers)..
I have tried to crochet fingerless gloves.. came out wonky weird,, and not givable.. bummer!

Let me know if you need yarn.

How nice Heather, that you do that. Sorry I don't do the nail thing. Dirt and grease are usually under my nails lol. What about a small tin of body butter or a salve, like plantain salve or lip balm. Just my thoughts anyways. Good luck.

Heather, I would love to send cards that you could include in the baggies. I could also help make coasters if you need it. As for things to put in the baggies…lip balms, lotion, nail clippers, emery boards, deck of cards…am I way off here? Do you want to avoid food/snackie things?

I have an idea for the kids bags. You could do homemade playdough! Crayons and paper are also something kids would love if you plan to do items not made.

Crochet hats maybe? Socks? Homemade soaps?
I'll keep thinking.

If I'm reading Heather's post correctly, that's a lot of stuff. Sounds like 25 women, 25 kids and 25 seniors. Let's help her out on this great project. I can send several skeins of yarn and probably a big box of those little handwawrmer packs and probably some other stuff too.

Karen - I would love to include some of your beautiful cards. Your ideas are great - I'm just a homemade gift giver (I love when someone takes the time and puts forth the effort to make something). I don't have a very big budget but I have a pretty big supply of fabric LOL!

I don't have much experience with loved ones being in a nursing home. My grandpa was in for a couple weeks for recovery and he was so upset about it nothing would have cheered him up. My husbands grandpa was in a nursing home for less than a week before he passed so he didn't need anything. Outside of the nursing home my grandpa ALWAYS had a coaster for his drink - on the kitchen table, the stand beside his recliner, etc. and my husband's grandpa always had cold hands. That's why I came up with the coasters and fingerless mittens and asked for any other ideas. I don't have a set number in mind yet - it depends on what I can get done in my busy schedule. 25 is just what I was able to complete last year.

I totally get the hand made thing! It just means more. What theme would you like the cards to be? :)

Got your email, Heather! :)

If you have some larger pieces of flannel, this may be an option…
