In one of the magazines (or maybe the book?) there was a picture of ladies dancing and you could see little white lacy things peeking out under the skirt, but above the knees...are these called bloomers or knickers? I think it was so cute! |

I'm going to say bloomers...or pantaloons? When living in England, knickers were panties, when in boarding school, knickers were navy blue corduroy bloused pants that stopped at our knees. I guess it's where you come from!

I call them bloomers. When I worked as a lady of the 1800s at Old World Wisconsin, a lot of my coworkers made their own and wore them under their petticoats. Really cute with lace and ribbon trim. |

I say bloomers, too. And let me date my self, here. :) In the late 1960's, I even wore mini-dresses(super mini--bottom of skirt came to my fingertips when my arms hung down straight) that had matching bloomers with lace underneath!!! :D My boss at the time(at the Federal Reserve Bank, no less...) had a good sense of humour about the whole weird fashion thing and used to say that he wanted to toss me something as I passed so he could see my bloomers as I raised my arms to catch what he threw! :D

I always pictured bloomers as being baggy and having too much bulk to wear under any of my skirts. But in the picture they looked to be nice and trim. Does anyone know where to get these? Thanks for all your responses! |

I would call them bloomers or pantaloons or pantalettes too. Knickers I always think of as just below the knee. I LOVED that website Mikki!!
