I've been away for about a week...here's why...Jim was back in the hospital to repair the spinal leak from the last surgery. Everything went well and he's back home. I came home to a flooded basement, over 2 inches of water all around, had that taken care of (somewhat), my furnace went out for two days because of the moisture but the plumber was able to get it going, ($349) went out to go to the library and the car was dead, had to call someone in town to come out and give it a jump ($30), went to change cars at Jim's house and got stuck in the mud up to my bumper. I had to take his car to drive into town to find a tow truck to pull me out ($80). Drove back to my house and the car was shaking so bad and sounded like something was dragging so I stopped in at a car service garage. They washed down the wheels with a hose, (free) said that the mud gets in there and causes that. I went home and heard there was supposed to be 3-5 inches of snow coming. I needed to pick Jim up the next day so I left that afternoon instead because it's a 3 hour drive. Went back home the next day, more water in the basement. Took Jim to his house the next day, got stuck in the mud again; he was able to pull me out with his tractor. Got home and found one of my window well covers had blown off and was in pieces. My Mom did something to my email while I was by her and I can't get messages (I changed my email acct. It's ok now), and the new boots I was wearing rubbed on my ankle bone and now it's sore. I'm scared to death to go anywhere today because I don't know what's going to happen next, but I'm leaving to buy a wet/dry vac to clean up the basement. Oh yeah, all the Christmas stuff I bought for next year, cards, bows, ribbon, paper, tissue, gift bags etc is ruined. Didn't lose much more than that thank goodness. Anyway, that's why I haven't been online too much lately. Boy, hope this next week is better!!

...priceless...lol

Oh, Jan. I'm so sorry to hear your troubles. Laughter is the best cure for the blues. You should put it to lyrics, sell the song, and recoup some of your expenses. Glad to hear everyone is okay now. "Well, since my baby left me, my basement began to leak...I'm here at the end of muddy street with broken e-mail...I get so lonely..."

We make a difference.

Well Jan, at least our weather has turned cold now. Everything should be frozen, and you don't have to worry about water in the basement! I hope your luck changes real fast for you! Michele

Yikes!
Sounds like one of those "I Love Lucy" calamities. I'm sending you some sunshine to hopefully turn things around, now. Sounds like you've had enough for quite a while.
Hang in there, Jan. And when things get super-stressful, please remember to slow down, & take care of yourself.
All best,
Melanie

Thanks for all the good thoughts coming my way. I have a basement guy coming out tomorrow morning who is going to seal up the leaks I found in the drainage system in the basement and hopefully that should do it. This is a system I've never seen before. It looks like a baseboard all around the bottom of the basement walls and the water drains behind the baseboard and runs into the sump pump. I guess it's a good system, mine just has some leaks at some of the joints, so maybe it's not as bad as I thought. What really makes me want to scream though is the fact that the seller (I've only been here 4 months now) didn't disclose any water problems. He said on his condition report that he knew of no basement water problems at all. I feel I was lied to. I was a realtor and I know he can be held accountable for this, but I also know he's broke. I'm hoping the $400 for the repair will end this and I'll just let it go, but it's irritating to know you were lied to!!

Jan, I just now saw this post and am so sorry to hear about the string of troubles. Like the others, I'm glad Jim is doing well, and I know you're thankful for that. I hope everything goes smoother for awhile!

Here's to a new day, a repaired drainage system, Spring ( the real one- not this spring-in-disguise) just around the corner and Jim back to his old self. :)

Update...well the $400 repair turned into a $5000 drainage system replacement! The system I had just wasn't doing the trick especially because one side of the basement is higher and the water couldn't run uphill. Luckily I still have money in the bank from the sale of my house to pay for this (I'm not working up here yet) so I'll be ok and this is guaranteed never to leak. I sure do hope this is the end of it. I really like my little house and my 2 1/2 acres so I want to fix things as they come up. Isn't being a homeowner wonderful!!!!!!
