Hello! Hope you have room for another farmgirl (or farmgirl "wanna be", I should say). I just joined the forum so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Anne, my husband, John, and I live in CT with 8 of our 9 children. We have just an acre of land and most of it is in gardens (veggies, herbs, flowers) and blueberry and raspberry bushes. We also share our home with Dakota, my son's German Sheperd, a couple of stray cats, and 8 chickens that I got for my birthday last month. We also have some baby chicks arriving tomorrow. :-) I wish we had more land so we could have more animals, but for now I am content to have my chickens again. I enjoy gardening(especially herbs),and when I have "extra" time, I like to scrapbook, sew, and quilt. I'm looking forward to being here.

Welcome Anne! There is always plenty of room here. I am fairly new to the site and I love it. Everyone has been so helpful and kind. It is amazing how many of us there are across the country who have so much in common. Great place to come to share! I, too, have chickens and will be starting more chicks early this summer. We lost a few over the winter to predators.....so sad. Our chickens supply us with great eggs! I also love to garden, sew and scrapbook, and rubber stamp! You should get involved in the mail art list....lots of fun and a good outlet for your paper crafting with just a small commitment. So.....welcome...hope to see you around a bit.
Keep Smiling.....Bev Bee Haven Acres http://beehavenacres.blogspot.com/ |

Welcome, Anne! My DH was born in Connecticut. His family lived in Manchester before moving to Georgia. Your little acre of land sounds just perfect. Especially when it's full of chickens! :) Glad you found us!

Welcome Anne! Chickens are the perfect birthday gift in my opinion!! I have 7 kids..I love big families! 3 of our boys are grown now and we are in Calif visiting them as I type this. 4 still at home 12, 10 and 10, and 10. I hate to think how things will be when they are all grown up. I will be old enough maybe I will be ready by then, though. I am so glad you joined us..it will be fun to get to know you!

Hi Anne, Welcome. What part of CT are you in? We lived in Bethel (by Danbury) for about 5 years. Loved it and miss New England. My sis lives in Wolcott. Glad you joined us. Tell us more about your acre. Sounds wonderful.

Wow! Thank you everyone for the warm welcome messages. You sure know how to make a girl feel at home.
To answer some of the questions asked....
Talitha, I have 6 Black Australorp hens and 2 bantam roosters(not sure exactly what breed they are). I have day old chicks arriving later tonight too. Don't know what kind or even how many, but they were free so I couldn't resist. My son's fiance is a Vet Tech student at college and one of her teachers has chicks hatching and is looking for homes, so I just said bring some over. This is the same teacher that gave me my other chickens for nothing too. I'm always willing to accept free things.
I'm a bit surprised that quite a few of you used to live in CT. I'm in Cheshire. Heather, do you know where that is? Where are you?
blueroses...Danbury is about 40-60 minutes from me, but Wolcott is a lot closer. Do you ever come to CT to visit your sister?
Karin...Manchester is probably about an hour away. I was just up there last week with my dh. I went for a ride with him to pick up supplies for his business. He does furniture repair and restoration and there's a store in Manchester where he buys everything.
mima asked how old my children are....There's Johnny(23), Michael(21), Abby(19), David(17), Raquel(14), Jacob & Josiah(12), Eliana(6) and my "baby", Mark, just turned 2. Having a 6 year old and a 2 year old is like starting all over again, but I'm loving every minute of it.
Those of you that left links for your blogs, I'm enjoying reading them. I have a blog too, but didn't list it in my introdcution. But it's www.homesteadblogger.com/BackyardTreasures br / You can read a bit more about me and my family there. I'm not always faithful in making daily entries. I think my best entries are in the archives from last summer....I posted losts of garden pictures if you want to take a look.
I didn't mean to get so long-winded here. I'm off now to do some more reading. There's so much here to see.

Hi Anne, I do come back east to visit my sister and would love to get together. My brother-in-law works out of an office in Cheshire. It's so pretty in that area. May not be visiting again until next year.

Hi, Anne! Welcome! It sounds like you are doing so many of the same things as a lot of us here - I know you'll find many kindred spirits --- I'm glad you found the 'Connection! I don't know how you have time to do what you do - I have an almost 4-year-old and an 8-month-old, and sometimes I feel like I'm lucky to get my teeth brushed (however, when I stop to think about it, I believe that yesterday I DID go out and weed BEFORE I brushed my teeth! Yikes!!!). Your kids sound like so much fun - as does your farm! A hearty farmgirl "Hello" to ya!
XOXO, Libbie
