I'm a little excited for this swap and am hoping someone out there may be interested in participating with me!

A little history behind this swap; both my grandfathers were adopted, my family was never really sure of our heritage. My husband was also adopted, so he didn't know his either. So, this last year we completed our DNA testing and were excited to learn about ourselves. I'm English and Scottish! As I'm learning a bit more, I came across the word: Haberdashery! I didn't know what it meant, but I knew I loved it, it spoke to my heart!! As I googled the definition - low and behold!! No wonder it spoke to my heart!! It's an English word for something we FARMGIRLS love to do!! (it was also a north american reference to a mens shop with accessories, but we'll forget that one for the time being!)

For the swap, please include:

2 small pieces of fabric or cutter quilt
2-3 pieces of lace
2 pieces of ribbon
2-3 other (notions or embellishments) such as:
buttons
thread
embroidery floss
wooden spools
yoyo's
measuring tape
wooden clothespins
needles

Anything you can think of that a farmgal could use for sewing, slow stitching, scrapbooking, etc.

Wrap it up pretty, use an old tin, a fabric pouch, be creative!

Below are a few pictures of ideas:

To sign up, please leave a note in the thread below.

Sign ups through November 15th.

Mail out by November 20th.

If you sign up and are unable to follow through, please let me know as soon as possible so we can make adjustments.

Wishing you all a haberdashery kind of day! :-)

Would love to join but just a question. Do we need to send everything on the list plus whatever we want or is the list just suggestions for what to send?

Yay!, Jean, Debbie, I have you down, thank you for joining!

Denise

The listed items are suggestions, but hoping to include the top three items listed, then any other pretties you'd like to include. Hope that helps?

Darlene,

I hope your surgery goes perfectly and you heal even more perfectly. November third is a good day, its also my first born birthday! Love and hugs are with you! XO

Hi April, please add me to this swap too! Just like you, we did our DNA testing with Ancestry and I learned I had English, Scottish and German roots. I had two German Grandmothers, one English Grandpa and one Scottish/Irish Grandpa. Actually, I am really more of a Heinz 57 than a majority of anything. My Hubby is 99% Norwegian.

Thanks April, please count me in.

My brothers did the DNA and found we are English and Dutch from my mom and Irish, Scottish, and Native American from my dad.

Audra Rose, Red Tractor Girl, Levis Grammy, MBurns, I have you all down! Thank you so much for joining, I'm excited for this swap too!! AND, I love love love hearing about all your roots as well!! My hubs grew up thinking he was half hispanic and half Irish... his DNA revealed he was 75% french and then a mix of hispanic and spanish! We gasped at the french and laughed! Now all my boys say Oui! Oui!

. . . . and then there's my "fun" story. My parents divorced when I was a baby. When I was 15, my mother had a son by a subsequent marriage. She died shortly thereafter and her husband relocated taking his son with him. I never heard from either one and had no idea where they were. Fast forward 60 years when my son gave me an Ancestry DNA kit for my birthday. When the results returned I discovered I was 54% Irish and the rest French, German and English. But the biggie was the name of the "match" at the top of the list. YES -- after 60 years, I found my brother. That was three years ago and we have had a glorious reunion. I live in Idaho and he lives in Utah, so visits have been doable and wonderful.

Oh Jean I am so very happy for you to have found your brother.
I found some half brothers but right now they do not want to meet me, ever. But, my half sister contacted me and we have been talking on phone email etc for 2 years. We have never met as she lives n Missouri and I live in Oregon and CoViD has kept us from meeting.

Jean and Debbie - that is such happy news!! I hope the relationships prosper! My husband also found his biological mama and has 9 siblings, 2 whole siblings, and 7 half siblings! We've yet to meet any of them due to covid, and they are in Cali, but there has been lots of communication back and forth between phone calls, texts and pictures shared - it's been a positive experience for my hubs and I'm so grateful for that.

AndreaPA, Texasgran - I have you both down!! Thank you for joining - I can't wait to see everyones little haberdasheries!!

Winnie, I had a very special neighbor man - 96 years old - who just moved into assisted living four hours away from me, who was German and Italian... he is such a sweet and kind man, with a very strong streak of stubborness in him as well! I know it's his german roots that keep him going! So full of P & V!! I miss him terribly, but we still chat nearly every day!

April I was talking to Marilyn and she wants me to sign up for this swap and so do I! Sooo please, do sign me up for it.
I am not sure if I will be at home or in rehab but Marilyn will know and keep you posted on it.

What is a cutter quilt??

Just curious doesn’t Haberdashery have something to do with making hats?
This sounds so fun! I am excited about it!
Thanks
Darlene
