I love fabric postcards, so I thought a patriotic fabric postcard swap would be sew fun.

You can have one partner or as many as you want to make postcards for, just let me know when you sign up. They are very inexpensive to mail-let’s not do any tucks for this swap to keep postage down.

Sign-ups wil go through May 27th. Mail out will be by June 17th.

Treelady-I am mailing to everyone

Sounds like fun, Julie. I want to join. Let me think about how many partners I'd like.

Do fabric postcards mail for the same rate as regular postcards? Or will we mail them in an envelope?

I think you need to put them in an envelope. But they should mail for .55 if nothing else is in the envelope.

Hi, All!
What exactly does a fabric post card look like, and is it mounted on card stock? Is it something you can use, i.e. a cute patch or bookmark or whatnot? Or just decorative? In any case, I would love to sign up to do one... and once I know, more I may do 2 or 3. #128512;
(Speaking of patches and badges, would anyone be interested in a future cute patch / badge swap, like embroidered chicks or wildflowers or colorful mandalas or...?)

Oh my, TreeLady, now you've done it. I said I was not doing anymore swaps until fall/winter so I could catch up on my burgeoning stash of UFOs. But I have the self control of a gnat and I LOVE making fabric postcards. Here are pix of last year's Valentines. I will decide on how many I do when I see how many are signed up for this swap OK?

Just a few tips for you speaking from much experience. You can download many fun postcard backs from the internet and print them out on fabric if you wish. I usually just print out on 4x6 photo card stock which gives good support for your postcard front. Back your front with Steam-a-Seam or similar product and just iron front to back and edge stitch around the "sandwich". I also package mine in 4x6" clear sleeves, also available from Amazon for protection. Just be sure to put the stamp on the outside of the sleeve. You can address the postcard itself or put a label on the sleeve and then the recipient will have an unused postcard. I believe current postcard rate is 37 cents. If you use the clear sleeve, it goes as a letter - 55 cents.

Jean -

I found some clear envelopes on line; I'll have to look for the clear sleeves. Do you have the Amazon link to the sleeves? Sounds like a plan. Is this them? https://www.amazon.com/Clear-Plastic-Envelope-Bags-Envelopes/dp/B00AU4N95E/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=clear+envelope+sleeves&qid=1620934717&sr=8-5

Linda -- over the years, I have used several different ones. Just do a search on Amazon and then it's up to you to determine what size and styles you want. Lots of options.

My experience mailing fabric postcards was expensive. The post office charged me almost $3. each to mail them. They considered them to be "small packages". If you put them in envelopes it is much cheaper; you just add the extra ounce stamp to one forever stamp. I can't believe how picky the post office has become.

Yikes Judith. I think individual post offices and clerks have good days and bad days when they are accepting mail. I am so fortunate that my little taco truck post office staff is so accommodating with my mail and always suggest the best and most reasonable way for me to mail whatever I am sending.

If you buy stickers, they come in clear sleeves or envelopes. Perhaps you could recycle some of them .
I weigh lots of the envelopes I mail. One ounce = one postage stamp. Since the city for some reason decided new sidewalks were essential...and that Led to scooping out the old streets, lots of barricades and a huge mess over all. So our local post office has not been easily accessable in well over a month! I choose not to go into the danger zone. So I buy stamps elsewhere. Problem...elsewhere only sells $.55 stamps.

When I mail packages, I almost always feel taken advantage of.
I think every P.O. should charge the same, but sadly they don't.

Worked on my postcards today -- first project after the big studio makeover!! Got three done and I'm pleased with the results. I think I will be able to do nine -- that seems to be what we have signed up so far. How is everyone else doing?

I have my idea ready to make, I just need to cut, sew, iron, and stitch around. If my idea pans out I will know how many I can make.

Woo Hoo! I have nine all ready to mail. Just need a snail mail addy for Amy (Pink PolkadotPullet) -- what a cute moniker that is. Amy, do you really have a pink polkadot chicken? Inquiring minds want to know. LOL.
