I just finished embroidering my first merit badge! I would love to see what badges you have embroidered so far! It was actually easier than I thought it was going to be! (I am very new to embroidery!). How do you choose what colors to use for the beginner/intermediate/expert outlines? Do you change colors? Or use the same colors?

Becca, that looks beautiful! I haven’t embroidered any of mine yet, but I think I would keep the colors the same. It would keep it more organized I think.

Thank you, Krista! I am torn between doing the different badge level outlines in the same color, or in different shades of a color, like three different shades of red. I would love to see an example of someone else's badges to see what they decided to do!

Or - for the blogging one pictured above, if I did Red, Black, and then Red again. Such a hard decision!

Ooo I do like the idea of 3 different shades of one color! Hopefully someone here will have an example for you that they can share.

I haven't done anything with mine either. I was thinking of putting mine on an apron. I like the idea of different colors to make the different levels stand out. (I have a huge supply of thread though from my mother.) Maybe if you're going to use the same color you could do a different stitch like make the second row of those little french knots (I think that's what they're called - I'm not very experienced with embroidery either). Whatever you decide to do I'd love to see the finished project! So far it's super cute!!!!

Becca, you did a wonderful job with your embroidery for the first badge. I did one and have a box of “need to be done” waiting for me to get back to them. Personally, I like color so I would always use different colors that seemed appropriate for the image.

Thanks for the feedback Winnie, Heather, and Krista! I think I will do different colors, but all in the same color family - or pulled from the badge if it's a colorful badge. I also finished my membership badge - but have not gotten around to embroidering any of the other badges I have earned so far. There is a little bit of learning curve, but I am getting better at it already!

Becca, those are great! I love the colors you chose. I have been thinking of doing 3 different stitches around mine for the levels...maybe a running stitch, some cross stitches, etc. So far I just have mine traced onto muslin with a sepia toned micro pen. They look kind of neat that way but I love how yours look embroidered. Thanks for sharing!

Might be a while before I get around to embroidering any more! I'm happy to keep sharing for those who are working on embroidering their own. When I searched the forums for examples of embroidered badges, I found only the membership badges and not many examples of the different merit badges. Eventually, I want to make them into a quilt top - but maybe as like a wall hanging quilt.
