So, I finally did what I have been waiting for three years to do. Sent my old work boots a-packin' and broke out some new ones that I bought on sale three years ago and have been saving until just this time - when the thought of wearing my old ones just one more time made not only my feet hurt, but my ankles, knees and psyche, too! I'm so excited - I think I have a blister already from preparing two raised beds today, but who cares! New boots! They are the real old-school Red Wing workboots - steel toe. That may sound like overkill to some, but it's *SO* useful when you want to use your foot for holding up a mobile chicken pen or something else heavy, or you're around animals. I just had to share this small pleasure...

XOXO, Libbie

Ahh, simple pleasures! I'm a bit of a boot nut myself. I had a pair of paddock boots that finally got so bad my chiropractor told me if I don't throw them away she'd steal them off my feet while I'm on her table and throw them away for me. When I finally let go of them I brought her the laces, kind of like the bullfighter gets the bull's tail or ears. She's a dear friend too, so I know she 'got' it.

A good pair of boots can make me happy all day! Congrats on bringing your new pair into service.

I do know what you mean only I don't want to give up my comfy hiking boots. I have PATCHES on them and now need more. I did get a new pair about 3 years ago and I have worn them but it is just not the same. Good luck to you---steel toes and all. MB

Don't throw those old boots out too fast. I have found it helps to break those new ones in a bit slower. I never fail to get blisters from new boots! Also use those old boots as planters. They look real cute! Michele

While we are on the topic of boots, I must mention my fondness for Blundstones, from an Australian boot company that has been around since 1870. Here's the pair I have (the "stout brown" ones at the top of the page):

I've been wearing them for a couple of years, tramping through the woods and messing around in the garden, and they still look great. In fact, I'm just waiting for them to get beat-up enough to achieve that wonderful battered-Blundstone look that I like so much. In addition to their durability, they fit my not-so-narrow feet very well, and I got them on sale. Perfect. Any other Blundstone fans here?
