I just received an email from my friend and she had a friend that lost a dog to liver failure. She mops with a swiffer wet jet, and after much investigation, found out that there is a component in the solution that is VERY close to antifreeze. She said there is a cautionary statement on the packaging warning to keep away from pets and children (in small print). The dog would lick the floor and it's paws and that's how he ingested it. Can you imagine if a baby crawled on the floor and put it's hands into it's mouth?!? This just makes me sick. What are these companies thinking? After the latest dog food scare, I've started making my own dog food. Now I guess I'll join a lot of you other ladies and mop with vinegar and water! Keep safe! Hugs, Lu

I was wondering about what exactly was in that stuff too because even though I used it..sometimes with certain pairs of my shoes on my floor would feel sticky, and it should not have!
hmm..I do know that the mountain goats in some National parks up North would become ill from licking the antifreeze drippings left on the parking areas from the vehicles because of the sweet taste it had...
Now we know.Wow!
I used some vinegar water yesterday as a matter of fact, to clean the interiors of some antique milk bottles I had bought..it really shined those babies up!
So..I think I may go the vinegar route too. I was impressed with how clean those bottles got in just a few seconds of letting the vinegar water sit in them.
By the way..if you are making your own dog food now for your pet..you might want to check out the book "Country Wisdom and Know How" it has a 2 page section with recipes on how to make your own dog treats.

thanks for the clarification..much appreciated.
I wasn't exactly wanting to have to totally give up my swiffer mop...it does make things a little easier for me on my housework. So I do appreciate the clarifying.
I may still use that vinegar from time to time though as it certainly cleaned the grime off of the inside of the old milk bottles with no scrubbing at all.

I tend to use Snopes.com when I am sent emails that are forwarded , it's a helpful resource for finding out about the urban legends and what not.

Sorry, not trying to alarm anyone here, just passing on info that I thought was accurate. I do have to say though, that I lived near a P&G plant in California, and they had some very questionable practices that occurred when making their "soap". I really don't trust them and they are the makers of this product.

Tina,
Some people pry open the swiffer wet jet cartride and add their own cleaners such as vinegar and water. I will see if I can find where I read that at and try to post the information on how to do it. I use vinegar and water frequently and think it does as good if not better job at cleaning.

I have the Clorox version and rather than buy the cleaner, I use "method" brand all-purpose cleaner in it mixed with water....whenever it breaks or wears out, I plan to buy method's "o mop".
