'No Worries' here. That's the name of our 10 acre farm with a 90 year old house. We call the house Henry.. It just looks like a Henry. Years and years ago, my husband dreamed of owning a place where people could come, hang for a while, relax and allow their worries to be suspended for a period of time. We obviously have grandiose notions that after staying here a spell some of those worries will dissipate entirely! Hence, No Worries is a fitting name for the farm. I don't have the sign up yet..I've been saying that for 6 years now..sigh.. but one of these I'll be motivated to finish it and place it in the 'welcoming garden.' Good to hear all your stories.. many cheers and no worries. Julia

Julia, that's so funny having a house named "Henry"! You put a smile on my face early in the morning. See, even without coming to your place, my worries were suspended for a while! Thanks.

What fun it's been to read how everyone came up with a name for their farms! In our case, we always called our farm "The Poor Farm" to the kids. (My parents have always called their BIG farm, "Poverty Flats"! HA) When we decided to put in a business out back in one of our cattle sheds, we knew we had to do better. HA One day I was watching these big black crows {That I love dearly!} that we have all over the land and decided our farms name was staring me right in the face. So, "Old Crow Farm" it is!

No Worries, what a great name! We were on the freeway the other day and saw a big semi truck which was part of the "Faith Lines" and it had No Worries!" in great big letters on it. I love the idea of a place for friends to drop by and feel the peace and joy of the simple life.
Deborah ps, my mom's name is "Henrie" short for Henrietta so I got a kick out of your house being named Henry. Mom visited me once in college and my roommate said sharply "Henry, Sit!" and boy did she look startled. Once she realized that the dog was also named Henry she got a good laugh on it but you should have seen her face, it was priceless.

We have 3 acres but it really isn't a farm, and I love what my husband calls "Long skirt movies" (Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, my favorite being Howard's End), so we call our place Wit's End. Thats where we are at, quite literally, most of the time. |

I named my soap business Thyme For Ewe 11 years ago. We were living in town in an 1881 New England farm house but it was on only 2/3 acre of land. I grew herbs for restaurants on a shepherd friend's farm. Thyme for my herbs and Ewe for her sheep. When we moved out here to a little house in an over grown field eight years ago it became Thyme For Ewe Farm.
There is an Achinback Farm some where in the country. I always thought the person who named that farm must have worked long and hard that day.

I remember as a child when my parent's had finished building their log home someone gave them a housewarming gift to display and it was a carved sign for "Back Achers Farm". They put it at the top of the driveway and there it still sits against the old stone wall. |

Hello! We are in the process of getting out of Big D ourselves, and I count myself the luckiest woman in the world! We are moving to 35 acres in Edgewood, and I don't have the faintest idea what to do with it! I have really wanted to name the place, but I haven't come up with THE name yet.
Keep in touch! I need lots of advice! |

I haven't really decided on a farm name yet. Probably Five Stone Farms because I use that name for our homeschooling (Five Stone Academy). I chose it because of the bible verse that says at the judgment, we'll receive a stone with a new name on it and there are 5 in our family. I have already made a stamp with an emblem for Five Stone. We did some letter boxing one year during school and I made the stamp for that.
Thanks for such a great place to come and chat!! Angie Stones River Farm Girls (named for the middle TN area I'm in)
I'm sure you know also that when David slew Goliath, he had five smooth stones!

I have 25 acres on a road called the Bumblebee Buzzway so I think the farm will incorporate that name. Like Buzzway Botanicals, Buzzway Acres, Buzzway Arboretum, etc. I would like to make the property into an arboretum so that school kids and such can come and see what riverbottom looks like. The property sits along a river in Louisiana and the river bottom area is fairly pristine with lots of native plants and animals. I would like it to stay that way so an arboretum comes to mind. We don't even have a house there yet so this is all speculation for the future. We would also have chickens and small farm animals once we are living there. |

Oh, what beautiful stories! I don't have a farm yet, or even a house of my own, but I'm definitely naming them when I get 'em! I've always loved the idea of naming one's house, like Skeldale House (James Herriot's house), or something similar. Besides, my family's British, so I can blame it on that.
The farm where I grew up is called FreeStyle Farm, though it doesn't have a neat sign or logo. My mom trains horses for a living, and it just really seemed to suit her style.
Keep the stories coming, they're so much fun to read! |

Hello All! Your stories of how you named your farms/homes are great! We live on five acres in Missouri. We live on a piece of property that belonged to my husband's family. The piece of property that touches our south side used to be my folks acreage. (which I hope to someday own). I met my husband when we were teens and I lived next door...yep, I was 'the girl next door'. We used to cross the fence and meet in the pasture....hmmmm how romantic those starry evenings were! :-) Any-howsa-whosa...we have named our place Heritage Home-Place. We have six children. Four are still younguns at home and two sons are grown. We have three grandchildren. Life is good! :-) Children are a Heritage! So, Heritage Home-Place is full of love, life and laughter! :-) Dee :-)

I called mine RavenStrath. The first day out looking at it, all that we could hear or see above the snow were ravens (it was December 26th). "Strath" means 'wide open valley' in a Scottish dialect and my boyfriend at the time was from Scotland. My property slopes down toward the valley bottom where the river lies (but I don't touch it), to the west, looking across to a mountain range on the other side. There are always ravens about, and they seem to be an important bird in my life. Besides, it's hilarious to watch them teasing my dogs!
Also called my writing/home business RavenStrath, after the land.
Cheers, Anastasia

Hi! I'm Celtic Coyote's mom, and I named our place Freestyle Farm. There's a horse sport called dressage, a series of increasingly complex maneuvers that go back hundreds of years, and were established by military cavalry to increase the odds of survival in battle. It's still an Olympic sport, and the Americans figure in pretty well in the medals each year, but it's a sport dominated by the Germans. Anyway, there's a part of dressage called Freestyle, or Freestyle Kur, that's where a person may depart from the regimented tests required by the FEI and 'do their own thing,' as long as it contains certain elements. And it's often set to music. So beautiful!
Since horsemen can be contentious and think one way's always better than the other to enjoy a horse, I opted for Freestyle Farm, because I believe everyone should be free to do their own thing.
And that's how it came to be. |

Hi Farmgals! I'm a first time poster...My husband & I are transplants from Chicago & have a 10.5 acre farm in Southeast Wisconsin. The house is 100 years old, the barn even older. We call our place "HeadAcresFarm." Seems we get one thing fixed, and eight more things break down. Funniest example, the sliding door on the barn is a little tricky, but my husband figured it out & showed me how to work it. Of course, one day shortly thereafter, I pulled it off the track. He was annoyed, and I told him it was 100+ years old and bound to fall off someday. Full of wit, he told me it worked for 100 years until I used it :) |

Cathy,
Your husband sounds like my step father! He would definitely say something like that.
I haven't decided on a name for our new farm. I would be afraid of jinxing it! But, we close next week and I'm so excited. If I were to name the farm I would probably research the history of the property to come up with the name.

Laura- Congrats on the soon-to-close farm! A name will come.
Our whole HeadAcresFarm is really a private name that started as a joke... we don't have a sign or anything! We've been here for 5+ years, but of course all of the locals refer to the place by the name of the long-time owners (who haven't actually owned it in about 40 years!).
My DH is actually very supportive of the whole thing... he was a city, city boy. Before he met me, the closest he had ever been to a horse was a Chicago City Cop telling him to 'get back.' |

Hi all: My farm came with its very own name. I couldn't bear to change it. Evidently a man named Buck Bell built the house and it sits on a hill, so it became known as Buck Bell Hill, and it stuck!

Our farm is named Cornerstone Farm for a few reasons. First our farm is the corner farm of two townships. Second because whenever you dig a rock out of the ground two seem to be there to replace the one taken. Actually we have very fertile land but with a rocky base from the Canadian Shield.
We homeschool as well and have been for 16 years, Our school is called Cornerstone school@home
