I had a question about homemade dish machine soap. Like most on the forum it seems I make my own cleaners. Have any of you tried a "homemade " dish machine powder? I use washing powder and borax equal parts. But I was wondering if there was something better(I think it may actually be to strong!). My husband has gotten so good he grew up in a " if it doesn't smell like bleach and Pine sol then it's not clean " family. He doesn' believe it works. I was wondering if anyone had tried something else that works.
Thanks Mandi

Hi Mandi,
Here's a recipe that Kristi "Lone Star Gal" had submitted awhile back:

AUTOMATIC DISHWASHING SOAP

1/2 cup liquid Castile soap
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
3 drops tea tree extract
1/4 cup white vinegar
Combine water and liquid Castile soap. Stir and then add lemon juice, tea tree extract, and vinegar. Stir until blended evenly and store in a squeeze bottle. Use 2 tablespoons per wash in a standard-size dishwasher. Note: Do not substitute conventional liquid soap for the Castile soap unless it is a "low sudsing" soap. Regular soaps will produce too many suds and overflow the dishwasher.

A phosphate-free automatic dishwasher detergent recipe:

Mix 250 ml (1 cup) of borax with 125 ml (1/2 cup) of baking soda.

Fill the machine's detergent dispenser as usual. (Borax, or sodium borate, is a mineral salt. It is used as a degreaser, deodorizer, mild antiseptic and water softener. Look for it in the laundry section of the grocery store.)

Do you find this leaves a film on the dishes? I've known people to try homemade automatic diswashing mixes, and they don't clean as well as the storebought, and can leave a film over dishes.

The one I was using before the borax and washing soda wasn't leaving a film( half way through I added vinegar to the rinse) but it was seeming to pit my glasses I thought maybe it was to strong.

Mandi,
Yes, I would just get some Dr. Bronner's.
