Hi Linda, I haven't found any directions, but have made several here in the last two days, I'm sort of addicted already! I've used various colors and prints of scrap material to sew together. I've started with a 2 inch strip or so, with a skinnier one overlapping and sewed them together, gathered the material as I went to create the ruffled or gathered appearance. I've even added bits of lace, and other smaller scraps for texture and fun. I hope this helps??

Look at. Thanks.

I found this one. She has hand sewn this one. It could be done on a sewing machine if the stitch is long and loose enoough.

Hi Jill, so happy you are joining!! Woot! Woot!

This is new for me too, I found the above inspiration by coincidence on etsy, loved it and thought I could make it??? I have already made yards and yards of my version of the fabric ribbon, it's been therapeutic! LOL! I can't wait for further inspiration from you all!

Here is a different type of fabric ribbon - easy and uses tiny pieces of leftover fabrics. Would this be acceptable in the swap?

I'm in! Sounds really fun!
I have a lampshade embellishment project that I've been putting off, and if I can learn how to create shabby chic ruffles and end up with some spares to use for that project, then that will work out great! For those wondering about the lampshade project, it's from a book called Granny Chic: Crafty recipes & inspiration for the handmade home, by Tif Fussell & Rachelle Blondel. You take an old school metal lampshade frame and you weave shabby chic strips of fabric in layers around the frame (as if you're making one of those coiled clay pots you make in kindergarten). It ends up looking a bit frayed and a nice patchwork-y blend of colors. I imagine that any spare ribbons we create would work really well for this...
Thanks for suggesting this, April!

Thanks, Marie, for the link to some directions. Mine will be hand-sewn as I don't have a sewing machine, so the info there was super helpful. :-)

Here is an interesting site I found on the Internet for using scraps - the first one shown is a fabric ribbon.
