I went into town and bought the yarn and needles yesterday. Plan to look at You Tube and learn as I go. Should have it ready by the end of the weekend. Knitting is new for me, so this will be a fun way to dip my toe into this fiber art. Here we go!

Darlene, making a square dish cloth is now I learned to knit. I was 13, visiting my aunt in California. She taught me!

Hi, ladies, I can't wait to see photos of some of your "works of heart." :-) I apologize if I missed something obvious, but where do I mail my dishcloth? Thanks so much! -Amy

Marilyn, I learned to crochet when I was about 11 or 12. Made crochet bikinis for sale at a local cancer thrift shop when those were popular in the early 70s. The money all went toward cancer research. Then I graduated to making afghans. But after I started quilting in 2006, I stopped doing anything with yarn. This swap is a super opportunity for me to see if I would like to do more knitting. I'll let you know! :)

Darlene, did you ever knit with those huge plastic needles...seems as though it was called broomstick lace. I still have a piece I made for my son. I should get it out and give it to him. It is red and white. In our moves I seem to have lost one of my big needles. I need to search!...it is amazing how many knitting needles I have found in the strangest places.

As I worked to complete the dishcloth, Mom asked if it were for a swap. I answered yes, I think she was a bit disappointed. I am going to have to make two more, one for her and one for my sister. My sister's may be a birthday present.

I sent a message to Loretta. I would love to do this again! I really liked knitting. The first try was pretty dismal, but the second one was lots better. Not perfect, mind you....but better. The metal needles I bought from the store were really slippery and the stitches kept coming off. I found some wooden ones I had from years ago, and those worked much better.

Funny story: I started off thinking that we were to make or embellish a linen-style dish TOWEL, not a scrbbing-type dish CLOTH, so I had to re-think my plans over the weekend! Luckily I had bought myself for my birthday a book of cool and unusual crochet stitches, and one of them looked just hefty enough to be a good dish scrubber. The stitch is called, in this book anyway, a pineapple stitch. It was my first time attempting something this exotic. The first scrubber I made turned out pretty good, but I made one more jut to refine my technique and it turned out perfectly, so that is the one I'll be mailing out to my partner, Hannah. :-) I'll try to post a picture here. I can't wait to do something like this again! What are you all going to swap next??
