Embroidery is the best option especially for a small project. For a larger project, such as a blanket, I would make a chart and pick up the colors of the initials as one crochets.

Just make an educated guess about where you want it and sew it on. Or if it is preferred, measure the area and sew on some evenly spaces grid lines with a contrasting color and follow a drawing or graph. It is also easy to count the rows on a finished project and mark off a space for the initials. I would use a chain stitch in yarn if it needs to be curly and a satin stitch to make block letters. Be aware that counting and measuring carefully is the key to a successful result.

I've been busy in my studio working on a patriotic bench pillow for the swing on my front porch. Seven blocks with top and bottom borders. Here are the first two blocks . . . only five to go

I'm working on a redo of the bathmat I made earlier. To make the spiral lay flat and not come apart, I used t-shirt yarn to make slip stitches all the way around the braid. Using these as a foundation, I am now single stitching the braid into a spiral.

Cute blocks, Jean. I love patriotic blocks. Are you designing them yourself?

I am so far behind on reading all the posts I may never catch up. You ladies are such a gift with all your talents. What wonderful projects.

This year has been incredibly painful for me that it has taken me this long to get it together enough to get back to my ole self. (not there yet but working hard on it) I do not wish to depress ya all, I'll just say it has been a year of loss. But I am getting there.

So, thank all of you for such inspiration.

Jean, those blocks look great. I can’t wait to see them completed.

Marie, I hope your new bathmat is working out better.

Grace, those shirts are cute. I bet the grandkids will love them. Especially the fringe.

Theresa, I’m so sorry to hear it’s been a rough year. I hope things get better soon. Sending you many hugs.

Thanks farmgirls. This bench pillow is so fun to make. Wait till you see it after its assembled, the embellishments added and the fairy lights put on. Kimberbell patterns are simply the greatest!!! Awesome patterns that come in two different processes --sewing version for those who don't have embroidery machines and machine embroidery versions. And Kimberbell has recently released a line of quilting patterns where each design comes in 28 different sizes. So I have been able to pre-quilt these blocks in the hoop before the applique and embroidery are done. Too too cool.
Dear Theresa . . . one of these projects might be good therapy for you. It certainly helps me make lemonade from those sour lemons. Hang in there girl . . .
Farmgirl hugs,
jean

I am playing catch-up for my swaps. I have been really sick for the past week and a half. Hopefully this weekend will see it all finished. I hated not being on time but I am somewhat better now.

Hey everyone! I've been MIA for a long time, took a much needed unplugged hiatus. I missed interacting here so much! I've been quite busy working on many projects and wanted to share my most current one. This will be a gift for a friend when it is all finished. This is a original pattern from a pattern book circa 1983 from Hallmark so it lacks the finer detail of today's cross stitch patterns, but still fun and the recipient is a HUGE 80's stuff fan so he's going to love it!

Jean, Thank you so much for the encouraging words. Am working on some projects to help. I am taking art therapy to help and doing art surely does help.

When I washed it the first time, it came apart. I rethought the construction and decided that this way would be more secure. I'll have to wash it again before I know for certain.
