I have a lot of very old silverware, mostly from my family. Some of it is engraved, as early as the 1700's. Some have names engraved on them, and some are plain. Some are just pretty.
I took them out of the drawer they were in, put them in my glass baking dish, lined with tin foil. dumped baking soda over them and then boiling water, let them set a few minutes , rinsed them off and all pretty again. It kind of amazed me that it worked.

They look really shiny and lovely. Windy Pines (my cousin Michele) made me a beautiful necklace with the handle of an old spoon. I miss her terribly and like to wear that necklace to feel like she is with me. Hopefully I will get to head north to see her when it is possible. Enjoy your collection & thanks for sharing it with us!

Oh Dawn, huge hugs.....I'm so glad you have something she created just for you!

Nancy, That is the coolest! I too have a SMALL collection of old old silverware! I've been carrying it around now for 40 plus years! My mom and I would go flea marketing together often. We would find so many cool things! I havent done that in over 15 years. Never thought about displaying them but I do like the idea of having a couple of the spoons made into jewelry!!!

Nancy Jo...I love your little collection!!! And they look adorable in your wooden bowl.

I Collect old silver Iced- teaspoons! For many years up here in the Pacific Northwest...you couldn't find these kind of spoons
anywhere. Then I started finding them in Antique Stores and Antique Malls. I probably have 25 of them and hubby and I still use
them everyday. Now, you can find more modern ones but they are ugly...just plain with no character to them. I love my old ones.
I think for most of them I had to pay $2.00 per spoon but they were so worth it.

Have a Lovely Day Girls!!

Love, Hugs and Joy,
Peggy

Lovely, and a good cleaning tip!
I also have old silverware. My mother gave me hers. She had to lay it away and pay it off over time. Remember those days?
I have often thought of making jewelry for all my sisters, my daughter and my nieces. This way they could all have a little bit of my mother!
I love the old ice tea spoons also! More character in the old silverware!

I love old silverware; we use it every day. Mom collected sugar spoons and I collected butter knives -- I have over 200 different silver-plate patterns. None cost much at the time but now you can't hardly find them. Dad haunted flea markets for old silver-plate to transform into wind chimes, napkin holders and other crafty things. The variety of patterns is amazing and I found it interesting that you can pretty much date an item by the style of design. My favorites are the ones from the late 30s. It has been an interesting hobby.

Lovely collection Nancy. My mom collects spoons as well. She has them hanging up on her wall. She has two racks of them. I know they aren’t as old as some of yours but I remember as a child cleaning each and everyone of those spoons lol. I use to hate that chore. I would have loved to put them all in a bucket and clean them at the same time. I’ll share your cleaning tip with my mom. It may save her some time!

I would have liked to find one from the 1939 Worlds Fair for my Mother -- That was her and Dad's first date.
