I've put together a Cafe Press Storefront...has anyone else done this? I'm wondering if it's worth doing the special templates or not. I like the one I've put together, but I'd really need to mark prices up in order to make it pay for itself.
Do you think the plain wrapper site would be just as effective as the pretty cowboy neon one in terms of profit? I'm really visual, so a nice set up would lure me in to look; how about you?
And...do you think people would pay a little more than what I've got the t-shirts marked at? I've only got them marked up $1...would another $1 make you balk? Or is the price point just too high on these things already?
I've got two cafepress storefronts right now, one is my own that I use to make things as gifts or for the crew at work (made a fun "Super Interpreter" button for everyone last year.) It is just a basic free shop. However, the other shop that we've recently started goes along with my fella's volvo performance parts business and for that we have the fancy storefront, not only because it looks more visually appealing but because you can offer far more designs/products on it. Our mark-up is low, as t-shirts etc. aren't meant as the main product of our business, they are good for interest and word-of-mouth and eventually will be featured on our Craving Boost website.
As for what people would pay - I think the mark up is worth it for cafepress because the customer is getting a truly unique item. You can't just buy a mustang shirt any old place!

Thanks Meggie! I think I'll bump the pricing up a bit on the shirts; it appears that other experienced retailers would agree with you. And I know that people tend to equate a higher price with higher quality.
