I cut the fabric for the bag and laid it out marking where the sides and bottom would be. I then cut long pointed ovals out of brown paper and adjusted the length to fit the side of the bag. I cut the final pointed oval pattern out of the fabric. It was then I realized I couldn't stack 4 pieces to make the daisy so I cut them in half and adjusted the length again. I basted them down and using a satin stitch with the feed dogs down, I moved the piece where I needed to cover the edges of the petals. The circular middle portion is made of a circular piece of black fabric covered with French knots embroidered with a variegated worsted yarn. That piece was sewn to the center. I wanted to cover the edge of the black piece. I used some 1 1/2" satin ribbon and sewed it around the circle's edge making the pleats with my fingers. I then finished the sides and the bottom, hemmed the top and attached the handles. All except the basting was done by machine.
The key is to be prepared. I made a drawing and decided on measurements. I then drew a picture of the base fabric and labeled the dimensions. I made certain I had enough fabric. I may have had to alter my measurements depending on the amount of fabric I had. Be certain to add the seam allowances. If there is an alteration, redraw the picture of the main fabric and remeasure everything. After cutting the bag fabric, mark the space intended for the bottom so that is known. Lay the pattern pieces , not the final fabric, on top of the bag fabric and adjust the pattern pieces as necessary. Always sew the design from the surface of the bag up. This design was basically a multi-piece applique so the petals went down first. The ribbon ruffle piece was unplanned. I saw the showing the edge was a problem and decided on a creative solution.
Joan, I know you can do this. Start with a drawing and let the creativity flow. Break the production down into steps and write them down. Imagine how this would work in real life. I did and you can too.

I received fabric from Diana in ID and Dianna in AL.
Dianna the envelope is lovely.
This one has Natalie's name on it. Not to worry. I have a well-trained postal carrier.

Ruthie Ann, did you send your fabric? I see no one is saying they received any from you.

Well, I have made a couple of mistakes. I don't think I have thanked everyone I have received fabric from so far. To correct that mistake, I want to thank Sherry, Rebecca, Vanessa, Darlene, Marie, Marilyn and Natalie for your fabrics. They all are terrific and I can't wait to use them! And I am looking forward to the other fabrics I haven't received yet. Hope you all have a great day!

I LOVE all my fabric squares everyone! Thank you so much! I was making masks but it seems we are pretty caught up and no more need for them in coffee county so now I'm going to use my squares to make a couple of gardening g tool aprons! I really love those earthy colors, thank you!! Joan please forgive me my lateness, yours is on its way!
