I would like to host a zero waste swap. I've been inspired by our local provincial government, who banned plastic bag use on our island in July. I've been googling different things we can do to be zerowaste and some things that have come to my attention are plastic sandwhich bags, plastic cling wrap - we can use homemade sandwhich bags or beeswax wrap. Other ideas would be a re-usable shopping bag, homemade cotton pads, homemade menstrual cycle pads...the list goes on and on!
For this swap, you will need to either make or buy three zero-waste products for your partner. A lovely note to go along with it is always appreciated! Perhaps you can share some of your "green" journey with your partner. Sign-ups will go until January 15th, and mailing deadline will be February 1st. I hope you will join me!!
I got my kids to pick names out of a bag - so here are the partners:
Kelly - MaryJane Dianna - Denise Marilyn - Julie Joyce - Cristy Laurie - Karen
Please let me know if I missed anyone...and have fun swapping! Please post pictures so we can all get some new ideas for Zero Waste :)

Ladies, if you have not heard of Grove Collabrative you should check them out! I began to order from them in early 2019. They have a line of paper products called Seedling! These products are made from bamboo and sugar cane...no trees!!! I like that. They sell alternatives to some of the products I have been buying at Wal-Mart ...like cleaners in small tubes, that you are to 16 oz of water in a spray bottle. I love the glass cleaner and the floor cleaner among others. The microfiber cloths are so nice, luxurious! This seems to be a company that truly cares about the earth that God created and their customers as well!

I have been using the beeswax wraps and reusable "paper" towels. I do keep paper towels on hand for doggies messes. But I don't buy near as much as I used to. Also don't forget hankies. A great alternative to Kleenex. I only keep a box on hand for visitors. There are so many ways to cut back on waste. We have a wood burning furnace and so get rid of lots of things that way. MaryJane's badges are a good way to find ways to cut down on waste when researching for them!

I love my flannel hankies. We have had the same box of puffs plus for well over a year.

Julie, Do you make your own flannel hankies? Sounds like a great alternative!

I do Joyce. It is just a 8x8 square of flannel which I pick up in the remnant bin at our local quilt store. I just zig-zag the edges, you can use a pinking shear to cut them or even put a hem on them if you want to take the time. I keep a small basket of them in the bathroom cabinet, of course on in my purse and car and I always have one in the pocket of my chore coat. They get much softer with each wash and we never have a chapped nose anymore when we have a cold. I have found that using cheap flannel does not give you a very good product so I always try to use a good quality fabric.

Julie - that's great! I wonder if you could just serge the edges? Do you do just one layer - or two together?

This is a fabulous idea Joyce. Unfortunately I do not have time to participate, but I will check in to see what clever things you ladies come up with!

Serging the edges works perfect Joyce. I only do one layer, but I am sure 2 would work just as well.
