Yesterday our county 4-H held what's called Super Saturday. Dozens of classes are held and kids (and parents) are able to select up to four classes to take. In the past Darling and I have taught soapmaking. They also have things like jean purses, jewelry, walking stick carving and a whole slew of others.
This year Darling and I did Adopt A Wild Horse. Our classroom was packed! 15 kids and six adults showed up, and everyone, even the littlest of the children, had wonderful questions; everything from how are their feet to what happens to the not so pretty horses that no body adopts? It was terrific.
Of course, the highlight was when we went outside to see the man eating wild beast... This was the first time Quiet Storm had been off the property, the first time she'd stood in a parking lot full of children, cars, and parked school buses (we were at a school.) The wind was howling, trees were blowing, and it was enough to frighten most horses right out of their skin.
Needless to say, I had to help a few parents pick up their jaws from the ground when this happened:
Our wild beast just stood there, letting fifteen children and their thirty hands travel all over her body. In fact, she was caught yawning through the ordeal more than once! I think we made a few new friends!

She is beautiful!! Thank you so much for sharing! Sorry I have not been around for a bit so may be asking a very silly question...but I am guessing you adopted her and you promote adoption of wild horses? Could you tell me more? Thank you! Hugz, Talitha

Hi Talitha, not a silly question at all. Yes, we adopted her last year. Darling and I have signed on as volunteers this year (although we did our best to promote adoption before we ever had our own!) This was our first time out with Quiet Storm, but I do hope to make several more appearances with her. We've got a couple feed stores that are interested; I think we'll wait for better weather, though.
Our biggest issue is transportaion, as I've not got a trailer, nor is my truck big enough to pull one even if I did! I'm hoping that one of the local Ford dealers will loan me a vehicle in trade for some publicity; the national Ford company has partnered with the BLM to promote adoption, so hopefully our locals will be up for it as well!

Tracey, Congratulations! What a wonderful story. Clearly 'Storm' reflects the love you surround her with. |
