I have been looking for ideas for my future kitchen. I can't believe the lack of color themes I see. I watch the decorating shows such as Fixer Upper, Flip or Flop and Texas Flip and Move. I look at internet sites and all I see is white and gray or cream and brown. There are some elegant kitchens using these themes but where is the imagination, where is the color? When I was a kid my mom's kitchen was olive green 70's with gold walls. I didn't like it then so much but it did go with the green shag carpet in the dining and living room. I think I like it now over what I am seeing.

Do any of you ladies have colorful kitchens? Would you mind sharing pictures or at least your primary, secondary and accent colors?

What started all this is my sister in law gave me a pre owned blender in a butternut yellow. I looked at it and thought what if I use this as a secondary color. Primary color for the cabinets would be cream and the accent color for the trim would be cherry wood stain. Soft items could be dark red, green and gold. This all works for me because we are inheriting a ruby red microwave from Mother in Law.

The" in" colors now are all neutral and boring. My mother always had a yellow kitchen in both the houses we lived in; she said kitchens should be yellow. I've had yellow kitchens, a a blue one, a brick and wood paneled one, one with pink appliances (1962 mobile home), and my present one is white with hickory cabinets. I painted the current one white because it is so small I wanted the white to make it look bigger. with white you can use any accent colors you want. The current accent is blue.

My take on kitchens is this. They are busy places so they can handle and need a lot of color. My kitchen is a mix-match of fall colors and greens. I like a touch of yellow, red, and black or dark wood in each room of the house. Think crazy quilt and that's my kitchen. Nancy I like your choice of colors. I have them in my kitchen.

Nancy... I agree, Grey is the new neutral... and I find it cold and boring!
give me a splash of color, something that will draw me into the kitchen and not feel so sterile.. give me some yellow or red or even orange..after all, the foods we cook aren't neutral... veggies are red, green, yellow, orange and even meat has some color...
So I am all about feeling cheerful in my kitchen.

I haven't been to a baby shower in many years until the one for my great-grandson last month. I was really surprised to see a lot of neutrals in baby clothes. How sad! Babies need color.

Hi Judith, I hope that isn't PC nonsense coming to baby fashion. Because we little girls are born with a head like Grandpa we need our pink until our locks sprout.

My kitchen is yellow and green. I painted my walls a lovely yellow and I painted my kitchen cabinets a beautiful shade of green. My counters and fridge are black---also a black lace swag curtain. I accent with sunflowers and roosters. I have an antique 1940's gas range. It's a happy bright place. No I do not like the drab colors now and I hate the geometric patterns---so hideous. Go for color Nancy and be yourself. I never follow what's in style. I like to be my own person and whatever people are doing and over using makes me hate it for sure. I have a red and white kitchen at my cabin shack with old forties red and white stuff. And an old 1930's range. I have had a red and white kitchen since 1977 when I got married and started picking up vintage finds at yard sales' I could never part with my collection and change to another scheme. I am lucky that I have two kitchens---neither one fancy---just cottage style.

I noticed this when I started seeing a lot of "flipped" RVs/motorhomes. Everyone just paints everything white.... SO BORING!!!!

My kitchen is buttercream yellow (walls) and avocado green (cabinets). The insides of the cabinets are salmon pink. The former owner painted them and they're this beautiful, shiny paint and I'm going to leave it that way for about another year... and then I'm getting new countertops and cabinets (maybe).

Your kitchens sound lovely and inviting. I am glad I am not the only who is afraid of a little color.
